Hans genfortolkning af antikkens arkitektur fik stor betydning for det moderne Grækenland. Til manges overraskelse bragte han ikke den klassiske græske stil med sig til København. I stedet introducerede han byzantinsk arkitektur og blandede tidens stilarter i sine værker.

Experience architect Christian Hansen’s striking buildings and hear the story of his journey from ancient Athens to the architectural diversity of Copenhagen.

In 1857, Christian Hansen returned to Copenhagen after nearly 20 years in Athens, where he worked for the Greek king and became a leading figure in the country’s reconstruction. His reinterpretation of classical architecture had a significant impact on modern Greece. To the surprise of many, he did not bring the classical Greek style back with him to Copenhagen. Instead, he introduced Byzantine architecture and mixed the styles of the time in his works.

On this walking tour, you’ll see his buildings as a living textbook of architectural history – from Romanesque and Gothic to Byzantine style to modern glass facades.
