Dag Johan Haugeruds Oslo-trilogi

Dag Johan Haugeruds Oslo-trilogy

Dag Johan Haugerud’s Oslo trilogy is also a love trilogy. A sex trilogy. And a dream trilogy. But also an architecture trilogy: The characters move around openly on the city’s rooftops and in the shadows of the newly built, inhospitable Hovinsbyen. For Haugerud, architecture is concrete, but also a metaphor for the relationships between people. The possibilities for thinking about sexuality and gender can be just as confined as the urban spaces of Hovinsbyen.

The three films premiered separately — over the course of a year. Now they can be experienced together. And although each film does not require you to have seen the others, the director has subtly inserted small references and figures into the films so that they comment on each other. Weekendavisen wrote: “The Norwegian Dag Johan Haugerud has quietly developed into one of Scandinavia’s best film directors. Now he is embarking on a trilogy that may end up becoming his magnum opus.” And it has become just that!
