Søren Pihlmann Finds Poetry in Present Ressources

Danish architect Søren Pihlmann wants nothing less than to revolutionise how we build. He sees an inherent quality and beauty in existing materials and wants to explore alternative ways to the traditional practice of tearing down, throwing away and building anew. Louisiana Channel has followed Søren Pihlmann for three years and assembled a portrait of one of the most interesting characters in global architecture right now. Make Materials Matter explores Pihlmann’s approach in his own words and through his most prominent projects, from transforming an industrial building in Copenhagen to representing Denmark at the Biennale Architettura 2025 in Venice.

The Danish Association of Architects North Jutland has invited architect and PhD Henriette Ejstrup to join for a screening of the film and take part in a subsequent discussion about Søren Pihlmann’s projects and his approach to transformation and a new architectural aesthetic. Henriette is an Associate Professor at the Royal Danish Academy in Copenhagen, where she teaches and conducts research in material culture, focusing on sustainable techniques and materials of the past and the future.

A film by Simon Weyhe and Marc-Christoph Wagner.

DA:
