Jørn Utzon’s Bagsværd Church

Open House
Credit:

Step inside one of Denmark’s most iconic modern churches and experience the unique building by Jørn Utzon – the architect behind the Sydney Opera House. Inaugurated on August 15, 1976, Bagsværd Church is a unique space where soft, natural light flows across curved concrete ceilings and calm, white walls and lights up the aisle and the corridors.

Inspired by clouds

From the outside, the building appears modest, almost industrial. But behind the simple façade lies a surprising interior. The organically shaped vaults in the ceiling were inspired by drifting clouds – a vision that Utzon translated into concrete.

During Open House you are invited to discover Bagsværd Church at your own pace. At 13:00 and 15:00 there will guided tours in english where you will be introduced to the architecture of the church.
