The Sandiness of Sand

Lecture
Credit:
Malene Hartmann og Frans Drewniak

In this talk, architect Frans Drewniak will present his collaboration with visual artist Malene Hartmann entitled The Sandiness of Sand. The title refers to the playful writings of the British architects Alison and Peter Smithson and their early critique of the consumer society.

Photographic works, paintings, tiles, and drawings produced by Hartmann & Drewniak are based on their residency at Can Lis in Mallorca, designed by architect Jørn Utzon.

The work, supported by Statens Kunstfond and Dreyers Fond, has recently been exhibited at the Architects’ Association in Palma de Mallorca. The artwork revolves around the theme of the life cycle and the millions of years it has taken to form many of the natural resources we consume. It also explores how the beauty of Jørn Utzon's Can Lis is inextricably linked to its decay.

We invite reflection on the passage of time and the materiality of the landscape. These themes connect directly with “slowing down” and the ways we can inhabit this world with greater sensitivity and respect. An attempt to achieve resonance and explore alternatives to consumption and growth?

DA:

I denne samtale vil arkitekt Frans Drewniak præsentere sit samarbejde med billedkunstner Malene Hartmann under titlen The Sandiness of Sand.
