Since its beginning in 2014 CAFx has been concerned with the ethical dimensions of architecture: how it affects the well being of the individual, the community, our eco-systems and the planet as such, and what we can do to improve it.
Our mission is to challenge the field of architecture, promote critical thinking, inspire, engage and increase public awareness of how architecture and urban planning shape our lives and the planetary wellbeing and vice versa, how our lives shape the other way around. We do that every year through a big public program of exhibitions, film screenings, lectures, workshops, seminars, guided tours, performances and online via essays, podcasts, films, etc.
At CAFx we believe that a wider understanding of architecture can drive change and that it’s relevant for everyone – not just for professionals. We see architecture as a generator for building communities and a tool for promoting equal and sustainable cities. Our role in the architectural circuit is to enable the exchange of ideas by connecting people and knowledge across social, professional, cultural and methodological divides.
By gathering different voices and experiences we can explore urban phenomena around the globe.
Each year we collaborate with a multitude of different organisations, professionals, institutions and disciplines, nationally and internationally. Our main activities include an architecture festival in Copenhagen, an event and exhibition space at Halmtorvet 27, an online journal, and a series of cross-disciplinary projects.
The wide range of initiatives and event formats offers space and tools for engaging in a diverse and democratic conversation about the development of our cities. Our ultimate aim is to influence the architectural discourse and contribute to a more sustainable and equitable urban future.
The festival is non-profit and part of the European platform LINA supported by Creative Europe.
