ENG:
Slow Painting is a participatory art installation unfolding over four days in the café at KBH+. A large, colorless canvas is placed indoors and serves as an open space for collective creation. Everyone is welcome to draw and paint directly on the canvas, which slowly transforms through human touch and the passage of time.
Materials are available every day between 9 AM and 5 PM, allowing visitors to drop by and take part freely. The artist will be present for conversation on the opening and closing days.
After the four days, the artwork is moved outdoors, where it remains for another four days, influenced by the elements of the weather and surroundings—sun, rain, and wind.
The installation is a sensory and architectural interpretation of the biennial’s theme “Slow Down”—an exploration of how time, community, and environment shape art, expression, and togetherness.

This participatory event will blend hands-on learning with discussions, fostering dialogue around the overarching theme of caring for common ground. Hosted at Skovhavelunden (Lundtoftegade 23) a community garden based on permaculture design and artistic processes, the evening’s sessions will engage transdisciplinary thinking in exploring new frameworks for regenerating ecological and social connections in the urban landscape.
The session opens with an exploration of co-creation and participation through perspectives from diverse practitioners. This is followed by a unique Dreaming Workshop led by Forening for Urban Aktionforskning, whose work explores co-creation, community and ecology in public space. The workshop is inspired by the art and permaculture project Gardening is Activism, by Skye Jin, which celebrates the transformation of space through interaction, care and creative action. During the workshop, which is open for all who wish to contribute, we will embrace togetherness and create a space for sharing ideas, concerns, and dreams of possible futures.
Through collective meditation in the sharing of speculative stories we will co-create a future of renewed possibilities – more responsive, open, and shared. Participants will share and search for meaningful stories and emotions they wish to offer for future denizens. To round off the evening, we will enjoy tea made from herbs harvested straight from Skovhavelunden, bringing a sensual connection with nature into this shared moment.

Sustainability Doesnt Happen by Itself: Discussion on sustainable development. Sep 22, 2025 at CAFx, Copenhagen. With Camilla Ryhl & Daura van Vuuren.
Moderator: Moussa Mchangama

EN:
Real sustainability requires cross-sector collaboration, new knowledge, and a willingness to challenge the status quo. But what does it truly take to ensure a sustainable future for us all?
This very question lies at the heart of the Bevica Scholarship Programme, which is why we have invited Camilla Ryhl, Director of Research and Head of the Universal Design Hub at the Bevica Foundation, for a conversation with Daura van Vuuren, a former recipient of the scholarship. In her work, Daura links Denmark’s political commitments to global climate action plans with its obligations under the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, which Denmark ratified in 2009.
In 2024, Daura van Vuuren travelled the world to gather knowledge, and if there is one key insight she brought back, it is this: sustainable development does not happen in silos – it happens through collaboration and across disciplines.
Join us as moderator Moussa Mchangama asks Camilla Ryhl and Daura van Vuuren:
How do we take the right steps towards a sustainable future – without leaving anyone behind?

Hypogeum: Jacob Kirkegaard sonic installation at Lydbrøndene. Sep 22-Oct 19, 2025 at Solbjerg Plads, Copenhagen. Daily 17:30 underground sound experience.
Hypogeum is a sonic journey into Copenhagen’s colossal sewer system: a sensuously compelling and precise mapping of an underworld known only to a few. The work is composed of recordings from the city’s subterranean stormwater tunnels, sewer pipes, pumping stations, and majestic water reservoirs with cistern-like chambers and vertical colonnades.
Presented for the first time to the public, Hypogeum is Jacob Kirkegaard’s newest work. The piece is installed at Lydbrøndene (Sound Wells) on Solbjerg Plads and unfolds through 32 loudspeakers buried in the wells of the square. This unique speaker system creates a striking encounter with the hidden infrastructures that keep the city alive.
If architecture, as historian Mark Wigley has remarked, is “the art of hiding the pipes,” then Hypogeum is an anti-architectural act: a work driven by the urge to render the hidden tangible—and by a fascination with the invisible in a world where almost everything feels far too visible and transparent.
The piece can be experienced every day at 5:30 PM, from September 21 until the biennial’s conclusion on October 19.
A heartfelt thank you to the New Carlsberg Foundation for commissioning and generously lending the work to the Biennial.

DA:
SlowWood: Timber reuse seminar. Sep 23, 2025 at CAFx, Copenhagen. Circular construction & wood recovery methods.
In contrast to fast-paced construction, recovering and reuse of wood is meticulous—each piece must be individually assessed and handled, as it might suffer from decay, contamination and moisture. Yet this slowness offers opportunity: like in traditional craftsmanship, design and manufacturing processes emerge that harness the individuality of salvaged wood. The seminar examines how new approaches support a circular economy, from DIY to emerging industrial methods at scale, while preserving local identity and aesthetic value.
Local and international voices will share insights in a hybrid format, that is taking place in a collaboration of 3 EU projects www.rawproject.eu www.ecometabolisticmodel.eu www.circuless-project.eu www.co2nstruct.eu.

The Rites of Wreckage and Waste is a site-responsive performance parade by Brazilian artist Rodrigo Andreolli and Sydhavn Teater. Set in Sydhavnstippen—a landscape born of land reclamation between 1945–1973—the piece explores entanglements of ecology, memory, and urban development through the wreckage and waste of our past.
The parade is created in collaboration with opera singer and composer Lucie Cure, together with local musicians from Sydhavn. Together they shape a collective journey that moves not only across, but also beneath, Sydhavn’s shifting environment. Through ceremonial acts of gathering and speculating with discarded materials, the parade unfolds into music, songs and choreographic acts of erosion. Bringing forth flashes of memory from the past landscapes—the beach that once lay here—alongside imagery of the slowly weathering coastline of Sydhavnstippen.
Like a myth-building exercise, ruins are gathered and reassembled piece by piece. Inviting audience to connect with the ancestral knowledge of Sydhavn, re-compose the narratives rooted in our past and imagine our futures yet to come.
Note: After the performance on 24th there will be conversation and exchange based on the piece about ecology, ruins, landscapes and art, in collaboration with Nana-Francisca Schottländer & Lukas Lund.

In this talk, architect Frans Drewniak will present his collaboration with visual artist Malene Hartmann entitled The Sandiness of Sand. The title refers to the playful writings of the British architects Alison and Peter Smithson and their early critique of the consumer society.
Photographic works, paintings, tiles, and drawings produced by Hartmann & Drewniak are based on their residency at Can Lis in Mallorca, designed by architect Jørn Utzon.
The work, supported by Statens Kunstfond and Dreyers Fond, has recently been exhibited at the Architects’ Association in Palma de Mallorca. The artwork revolves around the theme of the life cycle and the millions of years it has taken to form many of the natural resources we consume. It also explores how the beauty of Jørn Utzon's Can Lis is inextricably linked to its decay.
We invite reflection on the passage of time and the materiality of the landscape. These themes connect directly with “slowing down” and the ways we can inhabit this world with greater sensitivity and respect. An attempt to achieve resonance and explore alternatives to consumption and growth?

I denne samtale vil arkitekt Frans Drewniak præsentere sit samarbejde med billedkunstner Malene Hartmann under titlen The Sandiness of Sand.
The lecture offers insight into the technical challenges and artistic considerations behind the development of a detailed, organic design language using fabric formwork – an unpredictable casting process in which thin, elastic membranes are used to create sculptural, structural elements. The process's surprisingly complex geometries are presented through photography and drawing, as well as through physical scale models and casting molds that the audience is invited to explore.

Architecture Beyond Acceleration exhibition opening. Sep 24, 2025 at Form/Design Center, Malmö. SLOW DOWN group exhibition with CAFx collaboration.
DA:

In a time where acceleration has become part of everyday life and change is happening at an ever-increasing pace, we need to pause and ask: What role does speed play in architecture, in our living environments, and in society when everything is becoming increasingly transient?
Entitled Architecture Beyond Acceleration, Architecture Day 2025 sheds light on how architecture can act as a bearer of time and offer resistance to the rhythms of the present. How are our working methods and buildings affected by increased speed – and can slower architecture enable other, more sustainable solutions?
Through lectures, discussions, and presentations, questions of permanence, memory, loss, and changeability will be addressed – as well as slow practices, techniques for spatial durability, and the role of architecture in transition.
In connection with Architecture Day, SLOW DOWN will be inaugurated – a group exhibition organized in collaboration with CAFx, Copenhagen Architecture Forum. Here, 24 imaginative responses explore our living environments not only as isolated places, but as parts of larger ecological, geological, and social systems.

Join a historical walking tour and experience how Christian IV transformed Copenhagen from a medieval town into a royal city. Christian IV is one of Denmark’s most famous — and debated — kings. On this walking tour, we follow in his footsteps through the streets and neighborhoods he left a strong mark on. Along the way, we see how, as king and builder, he expanded and modernized the capital in the spirit of the Renaissance.
You will learn about the king’s many roles and his ambitions for Copenhagen — both as a political center and as a practical, functional city. The tour passes iconic sites such as Gråbrødretorv, Børsen, Nytorv, and the Round Tower, as well as other houses, squares, and churches from the 16th and 17th centuries that still bear witness to a time when the city’s appearance and identity were changed forever.
The walking tour is a unique opportunity to experience history where it happened — right in the heart of the King’s Copenhagen.

Kosmisk Grund – strategi 1 2 3 4 5 explores how cosmic connections within architectural and landscape art are relevant as contemporary tools.
Cosmic connections seek to link body, planet, and cosmos through what is rooted in nature and the universe. These tools are omnipresent and exist in both physical and metaphysical form as cosmic fundamental elements: the sun’s rays, the growth of plants, and the cycle of the year. In this connection, an architecture emerges—shaped by the world it is part of. And through an outward-looking orientation, a shared grounding is achieved.
Through 5 strategies, the architecture studio stadia examines which (new) universal orders are at play today and their relevance to architectural practice.

Particle Dance: Kengo Kuma portrait film premiere. Sep 25, 2025 at Cinemateket. 15-year journey through 75 global projects.
On architecture, nature, and the poetic philosophy of Kengo Kuma
particle dance is a cinematic journey through the philosophy and practice of Kengo Kuma, one of Japan’s most influential architects. Filmed over 15 years and across 75 projects worldwide, the documentary offers an intimate and meditative portrait of Kuma’s approach to architecture – rooted in natural materials, sensitivity to place, and a pursuit of harmony between people and nature.
From the main stadium for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics to small pavilions for students and the general public, Kuma’s work dissolves the boundary between the built and the organic. Fragmented like a haiku, the film invites the viewer into a quiet reflection on form, fragility, and future.
The screening is introduced by Aya Okamura, expert in Japanese culture and design, in conversation with Tomonori Makita, Japanese engineer and project manager at Henrik Innovation, who contributed to Kengo Kuma’s design of the upcoming Water Culture House on Papirøen in Copenhagen.

The reading group Slow Spatial Practice explores slowness as an artistic dimension of architecture that gives space to often conflicted and marginalised voices. Hosted by Heidi S. Kajita and Masashi Kajita (Bureaus), the reading group will question the spatial and material dimensions of economic deceleration and the democratic reform of labour and production. Selected book chapters, film excerpts, and drawings include work by architect Momoyo Kaijima of Atelier Bow Wow and Japanese philosopher Kohei Saito. Participants commit to two reading sessions, including preparation (SEP 25, OCT 6), plus a public conversation with Saito and Kaijima (OCT 16). The Bunker was built by King Frederik VII about 200 years ago and has served as a fortification and ammunition depot. Nestled beneath trees and forest at the tip of Refshaleøen, the Bunker has found new and exciting life—without demolition or flashy modern renovation.
Now, the Bunker is home to art, design, and events. The creative agency Wonderland has taken over the space and transformed it into a creative slow oasis in the city’s hectic pulse.
Join us for a guided tour inside the Bunker, a welcome drink, a vegetarian stew cooked over an open fire, wine, water or beer, and music that will get you dancing. There will be affordable bar prices afterward.
The event takes place both outdoors and indoors.
It is possible to pay at the venue if tickets have not been bought in advance.
The bunker tour begins at 17:00 and approximately at 18:00 there is food.

Unboxing The Black Box: Urban atmospheres from film. Sep 26, 2025 at Royal Danish Academy, Copenhagen. Film techniques for architects.
The tacit, or the black box, are just some of the names for the sensory and bodily dimensions of architecture, which are essential to place-based atmosphere. Though perception is subjective, atmospheres are often commonly shared. Since the early 20th century, filmmakers have mastered the art of conveying atmosphere. Urban environments and architecture have been carefully chosen or constructed for their atmospheric qualities to support an emotional tone, and their essence has been condensed into spatial experience. So, what can architects learn from film about conveying atmosphere? At the event, we will watch film clips and discuss cinematic techniques as inspiration for architects. Participants: Morten Meldgaard, Nitin Bathla, Ida Bregninge & Sofie Stilling.

Join us for a hands-on workshop where you’re invited to help bring the Little Eelgrass Pavilion to life! Over the course of the workshop, we’ll transform the empty wooden frame of the pavilion by braiding and weaving ropes made from eelgrass—a traditional, sustainable material with deep ecological significance. You’ll learn a technique inspired by the roof thatching methods developed on the Danish island of Læsø more than 400 years ago, guided by workshop hosts who will share the cultural and environmental stories behind eelgrass. As we work together, we’ll explore how this remarkable aquatic plant plays a vital role in the Øresund’s marine ecosystem and offers nature-based solutions to climate challenges.

Eight Deadly Shots: Mikko Niskanen 1972 Finnish masterpiece. Sep 27, 2025 at Cinemateket. 5-hour opus on farmer Pasi in snowy wilderness.
Selected by Tusind sole, a Copenhagen-based screening series.
In the snowy Finnish wilderness, the poor farmer Pasi tries to make a living for himself and his small family. He works as a day laborer, felling trees and engaging in a variety of hard physical labor, while also falling in and out of a fairly solid supply of the moonshine he brews with a friend. His wife has to endure the consequences of his drinking, and more than once, the police have had to come out and talk him down. Slowly, the amount of snow increases until one day, eight deadly shots are fired.
Eight Deadly Shots is a national treasure in Finland. A five-hour opus that was initially broadcast as a four-part series on national television. It is based on a real incident in which a Finnish man shot and killed four police officers in 1969. It's an uncompromising and raw film that never falls into romanticizing or pitying its main character. It's just the tough, universal story of a man with hangovers who constantly has his back against the wall.
Mikko Niskanen directed, wrote, and produced the movie himself. He also stars as the drunken, confused, and disgruntled Pasi, who carries the film in his increasingly tired, moist, and ravaged face. Eight Deadly Shots is nothing more than a masterpiece.

Copenhagen Architecture Biennial has invited Jan Gehl, world renowned urban planner and founder of Gehl Architects, to select a favourite film for inaugural edition of the biennial. Gehl will introduce the film.
Come along as Jan Gehl, the godfather behind the term “human scale” in architecture and planning, presents Social Life of Small Urban Spaces at a rooftop cinema in the heart of Copenhagen.
This highly influential film in architecture and planning circles by urbanist and sociologist William H. Whyte records and analyses human behaviour in public space through a number of case studies in Manhattan, New York. Observing the natural order of spaces and the way people move through them, Whyte provides an intuitive critique of urban spaces and ways these spaces can be improved.

Alt Vokser her is a cross-disciplinary art project and an exploration of working collectively. The exhibition is a sculptural, immersive experience: a documentary film and accompanying sound elements that grow out of a large root system built from raw wool. The work touches on themes such as gentrification, personal narratives, imagination, technology, and animal and plant life, with a focus on the area around Nørrebro Station. With this piece, we aim to train and explore our collective imagination. Through a work where the boundaries between reality and fantasy are blurred, we examine how capitalist ideals have crept into our very dreams and visions. How can we imagine a different future?

Hypogeum: Jacob Kirkegaard sound journey beneath Copenhagen. Sep 28, 2025 at Gloria Biograf. 90-min sonic exploration of underground infrastructure.
Hypogeum is a sonic journey into Copenhagen’s colossal sewer system by Jacob Kirkegaard; a sensuously compelling and observant mapping of an underworld known only to a few. The work is composed of recordings from the city’s subterranean stormwater tunnels, sewer pipes, pumping stations, and majestic water reservoirs with cistern-like chambers and vertical colonnades.
The event interweaves excerpts from Hypogeum, Kirkegaard’s personal anecdotes and reflections from working on the project, in conversation with Morten Meldgaard, associate professor at the Royal Danish Academy, School of Architecture, and a former collaborator of Kirkegaard. With a professional background in film and architecture, Meldgaard draws connections between the subterranean recordings and the cultural, historical and aesthetic dimensions of the city’s infrastructure.
Together with Meldgaard, Hypogeum is framed within the genre of the city portrait in film and music — from Walther Ruttmann’s Symphony of a Great City to Kirkegaard’s depiction of Copenhagen’s supply and waste systems. Taking the new work as a point of departure, the event interlaces excerpts from the piece with Kirkegaard’s reflections on his own practice, as well as shared references to portrayals of the metropolis in music, film, philosophy, and architecture.

Architecture from demolition materials seminar. Sep 28, 2025 at Eriksgade 15, Copenhagen. With Slaatto Morsbøl & Flemming Østergaard Nielsen.

As part of the exhibition project Hands On by Slaatto Morsbøl (Thelma Slaatto and Cecilie Morsbøl), we are hosting a seminar with the aim of sharing experiences and insights into the harvesting and reuse of building materials from existing constructions. The practice represents the approach of the youngest generation of architects. The seminar will feature three voices across generations.
In addition to Cecilie Morsbøl and Thelma Slaatto, the panel will include a representative from Søren Pihlmann Architects and architect Flemming Østergaard Nielsen. Flemming Østergaard Nielsen graduated as an architect from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, School of Architecture in 1975. Throughout his career he has worked with sustainable construction. He has collaborated extensively with architect Carsten Hoff – among other things, they built The Experiment at the Thy Camp in 1970.
Hands On showcases Slaatto Morsbøl’s practice of sourcing and transforming materials from demolition, and is part of the Copenhagen Architecture Biennial under the theme Slow Down. The duo has particularly focused on the logistics of demolition processes and how materials can be transported and stored until reuse. They have also worked extensively on cutting old concrete into stone blocks of familiar formats.
The moderator is Mogens Ulderup.
Hands On is supported by the Danish Arts Foundation’s Committee for Architecture, as well as the Dreyer Foundation (via Copenhagen Architecture Biennale).

Words & Cities: Literary visions for future cities. Sep 28, 2025 at Louisiana Museum, Humlebæk. Mikas Lang & Liv Sejrbo Lidegaard.
The great challenges of the 21st century are being created and solved in cities. More than half of the world’s population lives here, and the proportion is expected to reach 85% by 2100. At the same time, the inherited ideas of modernity about the city are feeling increasingly worn. We no longer long for the metropolis’ shock, spectacle, and anonymity, but instead yearn for new narratives, fantasies, and phantasms: ideas of car-free living, autonomous block democracies, and bio-inclusive neighborhoods. If we want stories that can drive real change and not merely new versions of the same, the city of the future must be imagined at a distance from the material interests of the present. But who will create these new narratives, and who will set them into circulation?
Copenhagen Architecture Biennale has invited a number of authors to each write their own text about the city of the future and present their vision. Two of these texts — by Mikas Lang and Liv Sejrbo Lidegaard, respectively — explore decolonial, economic, and ecological perspectives on the future city, and will be presented for the first time on this day at Louisiana, where the event will weave together readings, cross-disciplinary conversations with expert voices, and debate about literature’s significance for the city and its possible futures.
The event marks the official launch of WORDS & CITIES: a new platform that, over the coming years, will explore the connection between literature and architecture in order to create new meeting points between language and the city.

Man's Castle: Frank Borzage 1933 film screening. Sep 28, 2025 at Cinemateket. Depression-era modern fairy tale about shelter.
Selected by Tusind sole, a Copenhagen-based screening series.
A modern fairy tale about seeking shelter under the open sky during times of crisis, directed by Hollywood's most consummate dreamer, Frank Borzage.
In the shadow of a New York City bridge during the Great Depression, a community of outcasts lives in a small shantytown. People who, in the eyes of progress, are deemed unproductive and weak, but in reality are simply unconventional, surviving off the scraps of the city’s constant expansion and moving to their own rhythm. Among them are Bill (Spencer Tracy), a free-spirited drifter who meets the innocent Trina (Loretta Young). They fall in love, and he invites her into his world. Frank Borzage, a genuine romantic and believer in spiritual truth, does not depict Bill and Trina’s world as a desolate wasteland but rather as a proud dreamworld. Every image, every gesture radiates a cosmic love that connects not only Bill and Trina but all lovers around the world who, in times of crisis, come together for a brief moment of peace and affection.
Man’s Castle has been available for decades only in a censored, post-Code reissue version, but has now been restored to its original length and structure. A masterpiece of 1930s American cinema.

Mirage music film is a radical meditation on sound, light, space, and material, where Taiwanese-Danish percussionist Ying-Hsueh Chen becomes a “sound medium,” channeling the acoustic voices of three iconic Danish landmarks: Grundtvig’s Church, Brønshøj Water Tower, and Thorvaldsens Museum.
Mirage is directed and edited by Danish Artist Rikke Benborg, who visually and sonically reimagines Chens improvisation and recomposes the material to a gesamtkunstwerk. The interplay of shadow, color, rhythm, and reverberation creates a multi-sensory experience.
More than a film or musical performance, Mirage is a cinematic deep-listening—where architecture becomes one with the performer, breathing and playing.

Rem Koolhaas took a 25-year break from designing private homes. Follow his return – on a steep mountainside in Austria – with the successor to the famous House in Bordeaux.
An international tech entrepreneur purchases an incredibly narrow plot on the Austrian mountainside where he grew up. The site only allows for a house four meters wide. This challenge captures the interest of world-renowned architect and founding partner of OMA, Rem Koolhaas. It becomes the first private residence Rem has built since the acclaimed House in Bordeaux more than 20 years ago. The construction process is documented by photographer and filmmaker Frans Parthesius, primarily using a simple, stationary surveillance camera. Slowly, the house reveals itself, as the film offers glimpses into Koolhaas’ working process and his relationship with the client.

Explore Copenhagen & Aarhus's subtle night lights with Merete Madsen – free lecture, sign‑up required.
As night falls, the city is transformed by artificial illumination. We can choose to allow art and culture to serve as guiding landmarks within the urban fabric, or let the glare of commercial LED billboards dominate. Cities such as Copenhagen and Aarhus remain comparatively dark, offering a rare opportunity to embrace subtle, slow lighting - where the poetry of light, the nuanced tones of dusk, and the depths of darkness can be fully experienced.

Sep 30, 2025 at Gloria Biograf. Children growing up among devastation in eastern Ukraine.
On resilience, ruins, and the silent trauma of war
In eastern Ukraine, where war has reduced towns to rubble, children grow up among ruins. Boney Piles follows Nastya and Yarik, two young inhabitants of a devastated landscape, navigating their daily lives with disarming resilience and imagination. Their world—scarred by bombed-out homes and fractured memories—becomes a surreal mix of play and survival.
Shot before Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Taras Tomenko’s quietly powerful film captures the slow, haunting presence of conflict. It is a study in endurance and a portrait of place, where architecture becomes a remnant of both past violence and persistent hope.
Presented by Ukrainian Architect Maksym Rokmaniko, Director of Center for Spatial Technologies and part of the group Forensic Architecture.

Experience slowed time with Dreaming Waterspace: a VR/film journey into the sea’s stillness, revealing hidden aquatic worlds.
This talk suggests a slowing down of time, offering a sensuous encounter with the sea’s stillness and hidden life, exploring the spatial and emotional qualities of water through a speculative, visual narrative. Dreaming Waterspace invites you to a deep immersion into the fluid rhythms of water through a VR and slow-down film experience. We float across the surface on sailboats and surfboards, dive below, and place a camera on the seabed to reveal an unseen world. The experience blurs the line between body and water and opens a space for reflection on how the boundless nature of water might inspire new, dignified ways of living in harmony with the planet.

Seminar: Creative Ageing by Royal Danish Academy. On spatial appropriations and ageing. CAFx, Wed Oct 1, 14:30–15:30.
As part of the Copenhagen Architecture Biennial 2025, organised by CAFx – Copenhagen Architecture Forum, The Cluster for Spatial Inclusion at the Royal Danish Academy – Architecture, Design, Conservation invites you to the event Creative Ageing.
This event is the second in the series And So We Create Different Rhythms, which brings together artists, spatial practitioners and scholars to reflect on the role of norms and polyrhythms in architecture.
Creative Ageing explores the emancipatory potential of ageing individuals’ minor gestures of homemaking and frames these as creative processes. This is explored through the sharing of research, a film viewing and a presentation about ‘Artful Ageing’ followed by a collective conversation.
Programme
Admission is free for the event and no registration is needed.
The Cluster for Spatial Inclusion would like to thank Copenhagen Architecture Biennial 2025 for supporting the event with the location and technical assistance.
About Tine Fristrup, PhD:
Tine Fristrup holds a position as Associate Professor at the Danish School of Education (DPU), Aarhus University. She is researching how the ageing society and new longevity patterns challenge the age-differentiated social structuring of society, necessitating novel age-integrated social contracts that shift the lens from age to ability. Fristrup has developed the conceptual framework of 'Artful Ageing', which challenges dominant active ageing narratives by emphasising the transformative potential of minor gestures and creative care in later life.

Beyond the Life of Forms: Carlo Scarpa & Aldo Rossi cemeteries. Oct 1, 2025 at Cinemateket. Contemplative journey through funerary architecture.
Beyond the Life of Forms is a contemplative filmic journey into two of the most iconic funerary architectures of the 20th century: the Brion Cemetery by Carlo Scarpa and the San Cataldo Cemetery by Aldo Rossi. The film explores how these spaces transcend physical form to touch on themes of memory, silence, ritual, and absence.
Through evocative imagery and reflective narration, directors Francesco Conversano and Nene Grignaffini examine how Scarpa and Rossi each constructed meditations on death that remain deeply resonant today. The Brion complex emerges as a lyrical composition of material and light, while San Cataldo is presented as a metaphysical geometry of voids. Together, the two sites become points of entry into architecture as a spiritual and philosophical practice.

Daylight Talk: Lundgaard & Tranberg architects on light. Oct 2, 2025 at VILLUM Window Collection, Copenhagen. Natural light in architecture.
Join us as Trine Hedeager Harboe and Malene Hjortsø Kyndesen, partners at Lundgaard & Tranberg Architects, give a Daylight Talk about the studio's practice and the use of daylight in their projects.
Each site and function require a unique perception of daylight. Through four different projects, they will discuss their approaches to working with daylight. For example, at the Natural History Museum of Denmark, light is consciously introduced into specific spaces, creating an intense and focused experience of light. In the upcoming project Viking Ship Museum, the light only enters through minimal tectonic cracks, as the ancient ships cannot withstand direct sunlight.
The Daylight Talk is organized in collaboration between Daylight & Architecture and VILLUM Window Collection.

For Sonic Architecture, internationally acclaimed percussionist Ying-Hsueh Chen (TW/DK) transforms herself into a "sound medium," spontaneously creating site-specific works in the magical acoustic space of Brønshøj Water Tower. The floating ceiling and massive concrete pillars produce an otherworldly resonance, where sound lingers in the air for approximately 15 seconds.
The marimba’s wood striking against concrete generates a deep, dark, and layered sound, and the long echoes allow for a slow, meditative playing style—where the silence between notes becomes just as important as the notes themselves, and the reverberation shapes the music, becoming a co-creator. This will be a radical SLOW concert – a meditation between sound, time, material, and space.

Join 'Mirroring Places' in Copenhagen: art, ecology, commons vs. gentrification. Panels, workshops, free tickets.
With increasing marginalization, urban gentrification and global environmental extraction, the urgency to find common ground beyond capitalist structures is more urgent than ever. In the conference Mirroring Places: art, ecology and the commons we will explore and interweave commoning practices in art, activism and urban ecology with a site-responsive conference at Til Vægs in the common housing area in Lundtoftegade, Copenhagen. The gathering will unfold through panels, practices and performative tools, shared between collaborators and audiences.
What are the narratives and perspectives revolving around urban development considering the intersecting ecological, social and urban crises? How can communities organise to take action that enable resistance and permeability in front of strong gentrifying forces? How can land and memory play a part in the development of such movements? How can artistic gestures propose reflections and directions in such contexts?
At the gathering we will discuss art, ecology and commoning as three related approaches to take action against the overwhelming urban powers at play in gentrification, ecological extraction, stigmatization and racialisation today.
Get free tickets and learn more about the program through the link.

Show Me The Budget: The Beloved City discussion. Oct 3, 2025 at CAFx, Copenhagen. Lars-Emil Woetmann & Mette Prag on illogical cities.
We often discuss how many parking spaces we need, how wide the roads should be, how tall buildings will be, and how far you should live from a supermarket. All of it stems from a functional mindset. But what if, instead, we discussed where one might get lost, where we might encounter the unexpected—and someone who sees the world differently?
We dedicate an evening to a conversation about the illogical city, the entangled city, the crooked city—the kind of city we love to travel for but rarely find. Why don’t we create that city? We’re handing the mic to those who know how to describe the city but rarely get to draw or plan it. And to you—you who live in it.

Explore Copenhagen’s Rådhuspladsen in a storytelling workshop on urban velocities, waste economies, and Experiments Platform.
Does my speed depend only on my own will?
Architect and researcher Laura Norkūnaitė invites for a collective storytelling experiment set in Copenhagen's Rådhuspladsen. Participants will trace the square's hidden speeds and rhythms by observing, mapping, and intervening in its everyday flows. By making its actors visible, both human and non-human, the square's layers connect into narrative loops — stories of how people, objects, and infrastructures alter one another. Beneath the streets of Copenhagen lie remains of buildings long gone from the cityscape. On the occasion of the Copenhagen Architecture Biennial, Arkæologisk Værksted invites you on a fascinating journey into the city’s hidden layers.
Here, you can experience everything from massive foundations and large medieval bricks to columns, sculptures, and decorations from city gates, monasteries, and churches—architectural relics that today leave no visible traces above ground. The archaeologists will show original building parts, old maps, and excavation photos, and tell the stories these finds illuminate: how the buildings looked, who used them, and how they fit into Copenhagen’s architectural development.
Explore C.F. Hansen's classicist redesign of post-1807 Copenhagen, walking through his iconic squares and buildings.

The English bombardment of Copenhagen in 1807 left the city in ruins — but also opened opportunities for rethinking public spaces, urban structure, and the built environment.
The country’s chief architect, Building Inspector C.F. Hansen, seized this opportunity and not only established new significant squares in the royal city, but also ensured that these new public spaces were framed by noble, classical buildings. The goal was clear: The King’s City was to appear as a modern city where classical (Roman) order prevailed — and where city, state, and church ensured the welfare of the citizens and the country.
The walking tour takes you through central Copenhagen to a number of Hansen’s public works and introduces the building inspector’s architecture and urban spaces.

7 Walks with Mark Brown
A quiet film about plants, patience, and the importance of looking twice.
In 7 Walks with Mark Brown, French filmmakers Pierre Creton and Vincent Barré join British botanist Mark Brown and a small group of flora enthusiasts as they search for indigenous plants in forgotten corners of Normandy. Divided into two parts, the film begins as a series of gentle excursions before evolving into a meditation on ecological memory, companionship, and slowness as a mode of attention.
The first part of the film, shot digitally, follows Brown as he shares his extensive knowledge of flowers. It then transitions to a luminous second part, filmed on 16mm, where the diverse flora spoken about in the first part is rendered up close through the photochemical richness of analog film. 7 Walks with Mark Brown is a pedestrian road movie that puts flowers first, in front and at the center.

Explore Baltic Sea ghosts & value in Gabrielė Dužinskytė’s Monopoly workshop—reviving sea, culture, and eco‑justice.
Architect and researcher Gabrielė Dužinskytė invites to play Monopoly of the Baltic Sea, renegotiating value systems and tracing the ontologies of Lynetteholm, sand and sea.
If we think about ghosts as entities that go beyond matter and time, how do they haunt territories and turn them into non-places? When it comes to international waters, the legislation that applies is only provisional, therefore largely ignored by companies and governments, turning the seascape into a negative common and driving it further into the state of an ecological wasteland. To what extent is the Baltic Sea already a mental wasteland and what are the actors/activities that bring the relation to this water body further away from the public imaginary? What ghosts are connecting Helsinki and Copenhagen?

Salt. Under an ever-burning and brutal sun, Venezuelan workers mine salt in a lunar landscape on the Araya peninsula. Their method has remained largely unchanged for hundreds of years: it's hard, slow manual labor that makes sweat pour down their toned bodies as they move in long lines up and down and in and out between great white pyramids of salt. At the same time it's a method that has consistently provided families in the local community with a steady, if not particularly substantial, source of income. But on the horizon, a newly built salt extraction plant threatens their traditional livelihood.
Araya follows three families over the course of one day as they make a living from the grueling, mechanical mining work in the salt marsh, developing into a poetic, anthropological observation of a work and a culture under pressure from industrial, technological development and its machines. A beautiful black and white heatstroke created by a two-person crew and composed of such breathtaking images that when French auteur Jean Renoir saw the film, he told its director: “Above all…don’t cut a single image”.

Salt.
Public Bath in Vilnius: a slow‑down ritual inviting mindfulness in urban space, part of Experiments’ Platform's Reflecting Abundance.
Public Bath is a space to attend to one's body and inner experience. What if a similar kind of attention and presence is enabled outside the bathing context? Perhaps public space is the bath, and we are the bathers? The project explores alternative modes of attention and being in public space. By offering tools to enhance one's receptivity and awareness, the participant is invited to claim their experience as the work itself.
Artist and philosopher Erik Vojevodin offers a ritual bath experience in the premises of the biennial's gallery. The visitors, situated among the exhibits, are invited to themselves become an embodiment of the biennial's theme 'Slow Down'.
The performance is part of the Vilnius-based mentorship programme Experiments’ Platform for emerging spatial practitioners. In 2025 four fellows explore the theme ’Reflecting Abundance’. Through immersive happenings the public is invited into the fellows’ project research in different locations across the city investigating urban velocities, exhausted winds, public baths and economies of wastelands. Following the happenings Experiments’ Platform hosts a discussion on the importance of experiments and alternative education.
Experiments’ Platform was founded in 2021 by the non-profit organisation Architekturos fondas
Please see the biennial programme for all the events:
Saturday October 4, 11-13: Urban Velocities
Saturday October 4, 15-18: Economies of Wasteland
Sunday October 5, 11-13: Windcatcher for Exhausted Winds
Sunday October 5, 15-19: Public Baths
Sunday October 5, 19-20: On alternative architecture education
Join the Experiments' Platform discussion on experimentation in architecture, moderated by Paolo Patelli, featuring mentors and emerging creatives.
ExP'25 participants and mentors, moderated by Paolo Patelli
Following the four Experiments' Platform happenings in Copenhagen, an open discussion will be held on the importance of experimentation and alternative education in the architecture field. The discussion will take an organic form of circle talks inspired by the reflections had during the Experiments' Platform process, involving the visitors.
The discussion will be held between the team of the Experiments' Platform - mentors Indrė Umbrasaitė, Paula Veidenbauma, Vano Ksnelashvili, Tuomas Toivonen, and fellows Guoda Šulskytė, Gabrielė Dužinskytė, Laura Norkūnaitė, and Erik Vojevodin. The discussion will be moderated by Paolo Patelli, architect, artist and researcher, living and working between Amsterdam and Copenhagen.
Experiments' Platform is an alternative education and mentorship program for emerging researchers and creatives working in architecture and closely related applied fields of art. It is a creative incubator where participants get tools to develop and present their work nationally and internationally, supported by an experienced team of mentors.
Show Me The Budget: The Invisible City discussion. Oct 6, 2025 at CAFx, Copenhagen. Gunhild Askehave & Christoffer Worm on hidden urban forces.
The city stands on an invisible carpet — thick, fuzzy, expensive, and unseen. A carpet that creeps under every house, every park, every neighborhood. This carpet comprises all power structures, conventions, and money that actually shape the city.
We tend to think of the city as a physical space — but increasingly, it is shaped by forces beyond the physical: the market, building codes, contract models, investment strategies, pension funds, tendering rules, land plot sizes.
We dedicate an evening to discussing everything that truly shapes the city — the invisible city. On stage, leading urban researchers, planners, and artists will share insights and concrete alternatives.
Speakers: Gunhild Askehave (Architect, Phd, researcher) & Christoffer Worm (Urban Anthropologist) & Lauge Floris/Atelier for Byers Rum (architects, urbanists, utopists)
Moderator: Anne-Laura Hedegaard

Poetik: Deceleration journal launch. Oct 6, 2025 at SUM, Copenhagen. First issue focusing on architectural deceleration through words & images.

ENG:
Deceleration is a negative change in speed—the opposite of acceleration, which is when something moves (much) faster than before or increases rapidly. But more than just being a passive antithesis to acceleration, the first issue of Poetik focuses on the active act of decelerating through words and images that explore architectural processes in which care, reuse, maintenance, reversibility, and time are crucial parameters in the creation of architecture.

MorgenDAC discussion on nature understanding & climate crisis. Oct 6, 2025 at DAC, Copenhagen. With Cecilie Rubow & Alexander Holm. Danish event.
Naturen lider.

Copenhagen Year 2125: Municipal Election Key Issues in Deep Time. Oct 7, 2025 at CAFx, Copenhagen. With Jakob Næsager from Conservative Party.

Discover how daylight shapes Nordic architecture, boosts well-being, and powers the green transition in the Poetic Daylight pavilion.
The spatial qualities of daylight are unfolded in the 'Poetic Daylight' pavilion, where the perceptual, aesthetic, and poetic potential of daylight can be experienced in a series of spaces. We see the changeability of daylight - from morning to evening - and we experience how light, and darkness shape the spaces that surround us.
Daylight is essential in architecture - and an important factor for our well-being and health. Especially here in the Nordic region, where there are fewer hours of daylight. By utilizing daylight as the primary light source, we can contribute to the green transition while ensuring that we get the daylight we need.
