Experience the rooftop of A-House

Open House

Step inside the iconic A-House at Islands Brygge. From the award-winning building, you can enjoy views of the water and experience the New York-inspired rental apartments that exude culture.

From the street, it might be hard to understand why the building is called A-House. But if you look at Copenhagen from above, the connection becomes clear. The shape forms a large and distinct “A” in the southern part of Islands Brygge. And once inside, the high ceilings and large windows allow you to soak in the light and the beautiful view over Copenhagen Harbor.

A-House was designed by architect Thorvald Dreyer and built in 1960, but the building has since been transformed into modern residences. In 2010, A-House was named Best Renovation by the City of Copenhagen and was also nominated for an award as the world’s best renovation at the World Architecture Festival that same year.

From design collective to unique New York-inspired apartments

Over the years, the building has housed workers from the nearby soy cake factory, served as offices for the postal service, and hosted sound studios for Denmark’s national broadcaster. Later, A-House became home to an artist collective, and the building still bears witness to the inspiring days when artists such as Tal R, musician Anders Trentemøller, and designer Henrik Vibskov lived and worked there. Today, A-House has been transformed into 195 rental apartments built in a New York style, located in the heart of Islands Brygge.

Step inside A-House

During Open House, you’ll have the chance to step inside the iconic A-House when the doors open to one of the building’s New York-style apartments. You can also go up and enjoy the city view from the rooftop terrace—one of the largest in Scandinavia.
