L.A. Rebellion: Killer of Sheep

Hovedværk i amerikansk film om afroamerikanske liv i Los Angeles

CAFx kaster i år et todelt blik på L.A. Rebellion-bevægelsen, som kendetegner de afrikanske, caribiske og afroamerikanske uafhængige filmskabere, der studerede på UCLA i Los Angeles i 1970’erne og 1980’erne. L.A. Rebellion var ikke et kollektiv, selvom filmskaberne ofte arbejdede på hinandens film. I stedet er det en paraplybetegnelse for de mange forskelligartede stemmer, der med rå og poetisk realisme skabte billeder af et hidtil usynliggjort afroamerikansk Los Angeles. Charles Burnetts ’Killer of Sheep’ fokuserer på hverdagen i området Watts og væver lyriske øjeblikke sammen med en neorealistisk, dokumentarisk tilgang. Simpel i sit udgangspunkt, kompleks i sine følelser og billeder.
