Window Behaviorology – The Working Window

Window Behaviorology – The Working Window explores the relationship between windows, work, and behavior. Through cases from Denmark, Japan, and Switzerland, the exhibition examines windows as an active part of routines in workshops, factories, and production spaces. As industrialization advanced the size, mechanisms, and performance of windows, they became almost a colleague in the workplace, managing daylight, airflow, visibility, and climate while influencing both industrial workers and processes. Located in Copenhagen's Meatpacking District, one of the city's first industrial areas, the exhibition connects the displayed material to its surroundings. 

The exhibition contents were curated by the Chair of Architectural Behaviorology, ETHZ, VILUM Window Collection, and Copenhagen Architecture Forum. The Japanese part is from Window Behaviorology – The Working Window, which is a satellite exhibition of Window Behaviorology at VILLUM Window Collection, developed by Yoshiharu Tsukamoto and Tsukamoto Laboratory, Institute of Science Tokyo. The Swiss part is from a book, Swiss Window Journeys Architectural Field Notes, Chair of Architectural Behaviorology, ETH Zurich, gta Verlag, 2023. 

The Danish part of the drawings was done for this exhibition by the Chair of Architectural Behaviorology, ETH Zurich, in collaboration with VILUM Window Collection and one window on site building and two windows from  VILLUM Window Collection.

VILLUM Window Collection is a museum for windows and daylight - with a large collection of windows, permanent and special exhibitions as well as events and research. VILLUM Window Collection documents and communicates the history of the window and its significance to the quality of human life through access to light, air and view.

Momoyo Kaijima

Momoyo Kaijima is Professor of Architectural Behaviorology at ETH Zurich, and co-founder of Atelier Bow-Wow together with Yoshiharu Tsukamoto.
