Learn about the ambitions of the architecture and planning studio Rural Agency to reuse the rural past for the rural future.
The architectural imagination of the 20th century has predominantly emphasized the transformative potential of urban environments. Yet, the urgency of the ongoing ecological crisis necessitates a structural reconsideration of the rural landscape.
This event, part of GRASP 2023, encourages you to reimagine the countryside through a regenerative lens, highlighting the deep entanglements of food, belonging, and biological diversity. Hear the architectural studio Rural Agency challenge the dogmas of rural planning and partake in the conversation on the future of the countryside.
Let's together unleash our imagination in the rural landscape! Let’s reintroduce the rural as utopian topos! Let’s reorganize the way we live, work, and produce in the countryside!
The presentation is part of the 10 Dogmas event series, organized by the Copenhagen Architecture Festival and made possible thanks to the generous financial support from Velux.

How a remarkable project from 1980 serves as a thriving recreational landscape while also supporting biodiversity, bird life, and various habitats.
The event is an excursion to The Beach Park in Køge Bay, which is a nature-based coastal protection project from 1980 located south of Copenhagen in Denmark.
The Beach Park in Køge Bay is composed of two human-made barrier islands protecting the hinterland against flooding. It is one of the very few examples of a realized nature-based climate adapted coastal landscape in a Danish context. The Beach Park, which is seven kilometres long, was the largest coastal embankment in northern Europe of its time. Today the Beach Park functions as an important recreational landscape, which further supports biodiversity, bird life and various habitats.
Following the guided tour to The Beach Park in Køge Bay we will visit an exhibition and attend an international panel debate on nature-based solutions and coastal landscapes at CAFx in central Copenhagen.
Organisers
The event is organized by architect and professor Gertrud Jørgensen, urban planner and associate professor Ole Fryd and landscape architect and assistant professor Anna Aslaug Lund from University of Copenhagen. The event is coordinated in close collaboration with Aarhus School of Architecture and the Technical University of Denmark.
As background information, the organisers have published this paper on the Beach Park in Køge Bay.

How can architecture contribute to social and environmental change? CAFx invites researchers and practitioners that took part in the International Manifesto Relay on stage to respond to the most urgent question in the field
We believe this participatory form of communication that reaches across positions, perspectives and geographies is necessary for the ongoing process of collective formulations of architecture’s contribution to the fulfillment of the UN SDGs. We really love the expansion of the collective approach of the Manifesto Relay, bridging across industry and research, and we are certain that it will present a powerful call for action and unison.
- Mette Ramsgaard Thomsen and Martin Tamke, the UIA Scientific Committee
Copenhagen Architecture Festival (CAFx) invites you to join a conversation around the International Manifesto Relay, a provocative collection of 45 manifestos from around the world responding to the central question of the UIA2023CPH: How Can Architecture Contribute To Social And Environmental Change?
The International Manifesto Relay encourages us to rethink the role of the architect in the scope of environmental, economic and technological transformations on a global scale, to reflect on the means currently available to become drivers of change. It mobilizes our field to embrace the lived experiences of urban and rural communities, but also to speculate on what a sustainable future for the planet looks like, and to declare how architects will contribute to achieving it.
A powerful tool to put forth ideas, commitments, agendas, visions for a better architecture, from Malaysia to Mauritius, from Portugal to Japan, the manifestos function as a starting point for a topical discussion on the use of language within the architectural discipline, specifically on the meaning, power, and limitations of the key vocabulary used in architecture today.
The plenary debate will engage the researchers and practitioners that contributed to International Manifesto Relay and the panel comprising Martha Thorne, author of the International Manifesto Relay's preface, and the Chairs of the UIA2023CPH's Research Panels, authors of the publication's six introductory texts. The session is opened by Josephine Michau, founder and director of Copenhagen Architecture Festival, and moderated by Federica Sofia Zambeletti, founder and creative director of KoozArch.
Attendance requires a ticket for the UIA2023CPH World Congress.

Enjoy a July evening at Cinemateket's air-conditioned refuge with free drinks, John Houston’s Moby Dick and an introduction on the poetic history of the ocean.
Copenhagen Architecture Festival, in partnership with the Fundació Mies van der Rohe, is presenting a series of three film screenings in the iconic Mies Van Der Rohe Pavilion in Barcelona. These screenings will explore the aesthetics, politics and mythologies of water systems, wetlands and aquatic landscapes and will take place over the next three months.
The series will commence with a simultaneous screening held at both the Cinemateket in Copenhagen and the Mies van der Rohe Pavilion in Barcelona. The featured film for this screening is John Huston's cinematic interpretation of Herman Melville's profound oceanic myth 'Moby Dick'; a sensory cornucopia about humanity's insatiable desire for control over nature, even in the face of inevitable failure and self-destruction.
The film will be introduced by Professor Søren Frank, an expert in comparative literature, renowned author of "A Poetic History of the Oceans," Chair of the advisory board for the Hans Christian Andersen Literature Award, and a highly knowledgeable scholar in maritime literature and culture. Professor Frank's introduction will focus on the Moby Dick myth within a broader historical and philosophical framework, exploring the deep entanglements between habitation, storytelling, and the oceanic realm.
Drinks will be served before the screening.

Byen, der forsvandt/The city that disappeared.

Six experiments using architectural critique as a generator of form.
(EN) Architecture critics from Sweden, Norway, and Denmark write critiques of fictional works of architecture. The critical reflection departures in the critics’ own dreams and imagination. The written critiques are handed over to six designers from the three countries who generate form through model and drawing based on the critique. The written critique and the graphic and spatial design representations are presented together in the exhibition.
The supposition behind Damn critics! is that good architecture requires good criticism. Which paths are to be pursued in order to revitalize critical practices within the architectural discipline? What role should architectural criticism play in the future? Under which conditions should criticism and the critics function? And could we establish a common architectural criticism for the Nordic countries? Through experiments placing criticism at the center of investigation, we wish to create an arena for the discussion of these questions. At this moment in time, where architectural criticism is widely considered as a depleted discipline, this project is at once a celebration of criticism and a curious inquiry into its future.
Like many other artistic disciplines, architecture is faced with a number of challenges regarding the shared conversation within the discipline. The critics’ authority is being called into question. Public discussion is strained by endless fora for particular agendas. Internally, the discipline is characterized by a lack of established criteria for the evaluation of architecture. The importance of context, user participation, material qualities, and energy consumption is much disputed. Whether architecture has become a billboard for the promotion of developers or whether nostalgia is taking over the image. The discipline appears to be subdivided into discursive echo chambers that rarely cross paths to reveal ideological differences.
A transformed media landscape has changed the conditions for constructing an architectural frame of reference. Popular websites present an endless stream of architecture projects devoid of critical reflection. Self-published, self-glorifying books released by architecture studios are available at professional book shops as well as in sophisticated clothing shops. There seems to be an infinite number of architecture awards from commercial actors. As the publicly available landscape of architecture continues to grow, it seems still more difficult to locate proper criticism.
In the shortcomings of the architectural criticism, a number of questions arise: How can we practice architecture without discussing its quality and value? How do we determine what concepts to refine and what buildings we would not repeat? What is the relationship between the built and the written in architecture as a cultural institution? Who defines the discipline of architecture and its presentation in history?
This is the territory Damn critics! is stepping into and what the experiment aims to qualify.

The fifth chapter in a film & lecture-series with media theorist and curator Jussi Parikka on the political theory of dust and its relation to architecture.

To address questions of urban resilience, Schmidt Hammer Lassen Architects brings together insightful thought leaders of different scales to take part in a 2-part series of discussions to investigate how our food and waste systems influence our daily experiences and affect our collective future. The event is free with registration.
At this seminar we will examine the dramatic changes in the physical and social fabric of Copenhagen over the last 30-40 years, and what we can learn from them. We will also consider whether values, problems, and methods have changed since the development of Ørestad and Nordhavn, as the new city plan of Jernbanebyen is being cast as a new showcase of ‘sustainable urbanism’ both socially and environmentally.
To shed light on these issues, we have invited two prominent figures in Copenhagen’s urban (re)development, Jens Kramer and Dan Stubbergaard, who will share their experiences and address the question of how to promote an eco-political framework within the field of urban planning. The event is free with registration.
Participate in Vesterbro Lokaludvalg's edition of Copenhagen Picnic with longtable dinner and activities for all ages.

The French office Les Marneurs, known for their high consciousness of environmental issues, challenges the usual way that we work with water and maritime environments in architecture.
The talk is the fourth chapter of a “Next Gen” concept, developed by CAFx and VELUX, where architects of younger offices each select a dogma within mainstream architecture practice and thinking that they want to challenge. This selection then motivates them to tell about why and how they are challenging the so-called dogma and why it is necessary to renew the architecture profession. Over the year, we will invite ten younger Danish and international architectural studios challenging the status quo in architecture practice and pushing the boundaries towards a more regenerative methodology.
Les Marneurs is an architecture, landscape and urban planning office co-founded in 2019 by Antonin Amiot, Geoffrey Clamour and Julien Romane. Combining a landscape designer and two architects, the office is built on experiences and backgrounds from La Rochelle, Rotterdam, Geneva and Brussels.
Based in Paris and Brussels, the young agency Les Marneurs carries out architectural projects on various scales. The name 'Les Marneurs' first embodies their meeting at the School of Architecture of the City & Territories of Paris-Est (Marne-la-Vallée). This reference also reflects their desire to anchor the project in the field, in its relationship to the ground.
By associating a landscape architect and two architects, the agency relies on very varied backgrounds and experiences. Their approach integrates the issues related to climate change at all stages of the design: from the consideration of resources (soil, water, energy, living, construction methods) and risks (urban heat islands, drought, flooding, submersion navy, etc.), from the construction of a common story to the modes of management and implementation of projects.

Do you want to get a taste of wild nature in the city? Urban foraging trip at Sydhavnstippen with Maria Natascha Koustrup Larsen, also known as 'Den hurtige sanker'.
Do you want to experience wild nature in the city? Not only experience it, but also taste it? Then join the urban foraging trip at CAFX at Sydhavnstippen on June 11th from 12-14. The foraging trip will be facilitated by Maria Natascha Koustrup Larsen, also known as 'Den hurtige sanker'.
On this trip you will get to know some of the tasty herbs, flowers and berries nature has to offer. In June there’s an abundance of delicious and beautiful plants, and on this day, you’ll get to know the do’s and don’ts, what to look for, what plants are edible and how you use it. We will hunt for plants such as horseradish, Mirabelle, yarrow and much more.
As a city dweller nature can feel like something you have to go far away to experience, but you don’t have to go out of the city to experience local ecologies and find flavorful resources. Learning how to utilize the nature we live in and next to in a sustainable way, only makes us closer to it – and by doing so, taking better care of it. Get inspired to go ‘shopping’ for food in nature in the future and get to know how you can utilize wild food in your own kitchen. We’ll end the trip with a small tasting of the plants that we find.
Maria has been facilitating foraging workshops since 2018 and has among other events hosted ‘Wild Drinks’ workshops at Roskilde Festival. Her aim is to heighten our connection with nature through experiences by making foraging accessible to all, no matter your background or interest in nature with a careful approach. As a native Copenhagener it is an important part of her practice to show others how to take care of and use the nature in and around Copenhagen.
Important:
We will meet at Sydhavns Genbrugscenter, Bådhavnsgade 50, 2450 Kbh SV
Wear practical clothing and shoes
Bring a cup and water
Bring something to forage in a preferably a scissor or knife
Book a ticket in advance

Join us in a conversation to address questions of urban resilience. Through the lens of food and waste systems, we explore how they influence our daily experiences and affect our collective future.
In this discussion we challenge two basic precepts of urban planning that underpin the dichotomy between city and countryside - one as a site of consumption, the other as a site for industrialized food production - yet we are concealed from the waste in both places.
To address questions of urban resilience, we bring together insightful thought leaders of different scales to take part in a 2-part series of discussions to investigate how our food and waste systems influence our daily experiences and affect our collective future.
This event marks the launch of a series of discussions hosted by CAFx, Schmidt Hammer Lassen Architects and Roskilde Festival, in partnership with BloxHub, where we share insights from our recent publication to offer value propositions of future potential aimed towards cultural and political change in urban food systems.
SHL explores the city as a resource organism, the history of cities and their relationship with food and resources. How might we better understand the extractive relationship between cities and countryside, and how could we redress it to create self-sufficiency and regeneration?
SHL examines the circular economy from a food and nutrient perspective. A study published by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation revealed that cities only return 2% of the nutrients they extract from agriculture to the countryside. How might we reverse these trends by redefining the potentials and opportunities in ‘waste’?

An exploration into the architecture, biology, cosmology, and metaphysics of origami with François-Xavier Vives' 'The Origami Code'.
Everything that develops and changes in nature is folded: mountains, blossoms, the brain. Life is an unending series of folding and unfolding. It’s the most economical and efficient process in the natural world.
And it is not only design. Folding determines also function. Today researchers in robotics, medicine, biology, nanotechnologies, are embracing this “origami philosophy”. They are looking at how materials and molecules wrinkle, drape, flex and crease, refining origami techniques, and trying better to understand and duplicate nature’s universal folding principles.
The Origami Code explores this silent deciphering and mastering of a completely new dimension of reality. The film explores how the ancient art of folding paper has entered the cutting-edge domains of research and now could lead the way to the ultimate stage in bionics.

UKK Art Workers with Disabilities invites you to preview work from their growing project to map their access to the art sector, with an artist talk by Victor Vejle on the subject.
For our able-bodied peers it is often difficult to fully comprehend the limitations inaccessibility places on our use of space, while we may live in the same urban environments, the livable space that is available to all is a small fraction of what it should be. For us with disabilities within the art field, this environment of inaccessibility cuts us off from vital resources and opportunities necessary for success in our chosen careers. UKK Art Workers with Disabilities invites you to preview work from our growing project to map our access to the art sector, with an artist talk by Victor Vejle on the subject.

The collective TUSCA7 of artists, architects, and researchers affiliated with TU-Berlin will challenge the way materials and waste are used in 'traditional' architecture practice, advocating for local compost systems.
Taking their site specific compost installation “Compost Canteen”, realised for CAFx in Jernbanebyen, with Banegaarden and the local Steiner School as a point of departure, the collective TUSCA7 will introduce a radical rethinking of the way we are usually treating not only resources and waste, but also gardening and food production/consumption. The TU-Berlin affiliated group advocates for a more holistic design thinking and a more circular economy.
The talk is part III of a “Next Gen” concept, developed by CAFx and VELUX, where architects of younger offices each select a dogma within mainstream architecture practice and thinking that they want to challenge. This selection then motivates them to tell about why and how they are challenging the so-called dogma and why it is necessary to renew the architecture profession. Experience an immersive installation at Sydhavn Theatre that explores the habitat of mealworms and their ability to digest styrofoam, raising questions about our relationship with consumption, nourishment, and consumerism.
x4a_lab and ST:ART present WORMS OF MASS CONSUMPTION. An immersive installation at Sydhavn Theatre, that explores the habitat of mealworms and their ability to digest styrofoam, raising questions about our relationship with consumption, nourishment, and consumerism.
The human-scale worm habitat of WMC captures the motion of the worm, forcing us to travel in the space left behind as we follow the twists and turns of digested tunnels, adapting both physically and symbolically. The installation presents the residual landscape of consumerism, a sea of plastic consumables, and highlights the negative space created by the consumption of our own plastic waste.
Our future depends upon the ability of our species to adapt to a rapidly changing and increasingly extreme environment. The art of living in an ecosystem out of balance demands a collaboration with nature itself, with other species, with new technologies. WMC is an exploration on this theme, how can the mealworms shape us and the spaces we inhabit?
x4a_lab invites you to visit their open lab and exhibition WORMS OF MASS CONSUMPTION to gain insight into their work and experience a reimagining of our relationship with the built environment.
The project is formed in collaboration between x4a_lab, a design laboratory, founded by Architects, Pavels Liepins-Hedström, Elliott Andrew and Magnus Nilsson and ST:ART, a volunteer driven cross-disciplinary platform for artistic development under Sydhavn Theatre. Supported by Sharing Copenhagen m.m.

Meet the well-known architecture and research collective Rotor from Brussels in conversation with architect Søren Pihlmann and permaculture designer Skye Jin.
Permaculture is a holistic design philosophy that seeks to create regenerative human habitats by integrating natural systems and human cultivation. By adopting permaculture principles, designers, and architects can create complex and evolving systems that prioritise ecological health, diversity, and resilience.
In the third chapter of the seminar series, we will delve into the ways in which permaculture principles can inspire innovative approaches to architecture. Our discussion will cover topics such as upcycling resources, circular systems, self-regulation, and transformation, as well as the principle of the smallest possible intervention.
For this we have assembled a diverse panel of experts, including the acclaimed Brussels-based research and architecture collective, Rotor, renowned architect Søren Pihlmann, and visual artist and permaculture designer, Skye Jin. Through this exploration, we hope to showcase the potential of permaculture to shape the future of architectural design.
We will finish the day off with drinks sur l ́herbe.

An exploration of the relationship between contemporary architecture practice and climate activism with the French architectural studio Les Marneurs and climate activist Esther Kjeldahl.
The architecture of the 1990s and 2000s was arguably characterised by a severe subordination with architects relenting to the needs of the client, turning architecture into a nonpartisan servant of market forces. Yet, as architecture seems to be in the process of developing a clearer understanding of its normative foundation, one can discern a distinct schism from this instrumentalist paradigm among the new generations of architects.
The second chapter of the seminar series will focus on this re-politicisation of architecture with a particular focus on identifying the responsibilities of architects and exploring pathways towards a more climate-conscious architectural paradigm. We will examine how practitioners in the field can take significant measures to facilitate a renewed equilibrium and solidarity between humans and more-than-human species, while also considering how a renewed engagement with ethical reasoning might reshape the relationship between architecture and climate activism.

Join us for the fourth instalment of a film-and-lecture-series on the metaphysics, politics, and aesthetics of architecture-related materials, featuring Agnès Varda's documentary 'The Gleaners and I' and a talk by architect Sandra Bartoli on the intricate history of waste management practices.
'The Gleaners and I' is a captivating documentary that takes us on a profound exploration of gleaning, ranging from those who collect leftover crops in fields after harvest to individuals who meticulously search through the dumpsters of Paris.
Through this film, we delve into the fascinating phenomenon of gleaning, which embraces a rich tapestry of interests, diverse life forms, and cultural situations. This intimate and adventurous documentary sheds light on the experiences of both those who engage in gleaning out of necessity and a Michelin chef who derives aesthetic pleasure from this practice.
The screening of the film will be preceded by an introduction from the esteemed architect and researcher, Sandra Bartoli.

Her udvikles og praktiseres fremtidens rurale livsformer.

Challenging a dogma of mainstream architecture, Maarten Gielen founding partner from Rotor (B) will share the office’s pioneering ideas on how to research and practice architecture in a regenerative manner.
The talk is part II of a “Next Gen” concept, developed by CAFx and VELUX, where architects of younger offices each select a dogma within mainstream architecture practice and thinking that they want to challenge. This selection motivates them to tell about why and how they are challenging the so-called dogma and why it is necessary to renew the architecture profession. Over the year, we will invite ten younger Danish and international architectural studios challenging the status quo in architecture practice and pushing the boundaries towards a more regenerative methodology.
Based in Brussels, Rotor is a cooperative design practice that investigates the organisation of the material environment. They develop critical positions through research and design and have among others done the exhibition and book project “Behind the Green Door Architecture and the Desire for Sustainability”. Besides projects in architecture and interior design, Rotor also produces exhibitions, books, economic models and policy proposals and runs Rotor Deconstruction, a cooperative that organises the reuse of construction materials, dismantling, processing and trading salvaged building components.
Rotor will be represented by architect Maarten Gielen, co-founder and partner of Rotor in 2006, where he currently works as a designer, researcher and manager. In the dogma talk Maarten Gielen will address the following question: What if it was as easy for architects to reuse materials as getting new materials?
Rotor’s participation is kindly supported by Hub Brussels.

The most unsuspecting landscapes have the potential to become local biodiversity hotspots. Experience first-hand and learn about how reconciliation ecology has fostered a robust and diverse population of solitary bees.
Architecture has unwittingly provided stable habitats for solitary bees over thousands of years with the use of thatched roofs, mud walls and mortar, but how can architecture provide habitat in the absence of these materials? With a thorough understanding of the biology of solitary bees, Habeetats provides an architectural solution that fosters biodiversity in the most urban and industrial of landscapes: a landfill. On this tour of the largest urban landfill in Greater Copenhagen you will learn what solitary bees are, the architecture of their nests and how details are important for implementing effective and long term biodiversity solutions.
The tour begins and finishes at CAFx Halmtorvet 27 from where you will be driven in bus to the site and come back to CAFx Halmtorvet 27.

A 30-minutes journey along the Colorado River to the US-Mexico border wall; Images and music creating an insight into the human and climatic consequences that the geopolitics between the USA and South America entails.
Cisternerne, Art Week, Copenhagen Architecture Festival and Art Hub Copenhagen invite you to a special screening of the film work Liquid Light by visual artists Javier Tapia (Chile/Denmark) and Camilo Ontiveros (Mexico/USA). Javier Tapia is currently part of Art Hub Copenhagen’s residency program.
For 30 minutes Liquid Light takes the audience on a journey along the Colorado River to the US-Mexico border wall. Through images and music, the story is told in a poetic imagery that crumbles along the way creating an insight into the human and climatic consequences that the geopolitics between the USA and South America entails.
The screening takes place in Cisternerne – the special athmosphere, the architecture and climate here creates a unique setting for the viewing and echos the film’s narrative and the message about the importance of water and, not least, access to water.
For the screening including an artist talk in Danish on 9 June at 19.00, you can buy your ticket here
For the screening on 9 June at 20.00, you can buy your ticket here
For the screening on 10 June at 19.00, you can buy your ticket here
For the screening on 10 June at 19.45, you can buy your ticket here
The Ticket gives you access to both the event and the current exhibition at Cisternerne Kimsooja’s Weaving the Light.
Water and its beauty plays the main part in the film work; water is a necessary source of life, but this necessity also constitutes a fragility. The cinematic journey along the river shows how the water and the river are exploited politically and commercially with major consequences for nature and the people who inhabit it.
Join us on this both wondrous and unsettling journey along the Colorado River and experience the architecture and history of Cisternerne brought to life during the screening of Liquid Light.
MORE ON LIQUID LIGHT
The Liquid Light project is originally an installation consisting of both film and sculptures.
The main element in the project is the film work produced in 2019/2020 on a longer research trip to the USA and Mexico. All elements of the installation are intended as direct references to water as a theme, water consumption, climate crisis and geopolitical aspects. Liquid Light was presented for the first time in 2021/22 at the Vincent Price Art Museum and is currently on display at the 2022/23 Mexicali Biennial, Cheech Museum in Riverside, California.
Liquid Light is supported by among others Statens Kunstfond Ford Foundation og Grosserer L.F. Foghts Fond.
ABOUT JAVIER TAPIA
Javier Tapia (b. Chile, 1976) lives and works in Copenhagen. Tapia’s work can be described as a chain of events in continuous expansion. Some aspects of his work comments on problems associated to geopolitics and the function of art in the local and global culture, where identity plays a central role. The use of video, photography, drawing and collage are complementary to each other in the construction of the works. The results are different installation outlooks, where social interaction and materiality are an open destination.

Join an evening of talks and film at Tegnestuefællesskabet Nyvej 16 (TN16), the collective studio of Djernes & Bell, Office Kim Lenschow & Johansen Skovsted Architects.
The film and photographs of the exhibition “From Harvest to House” in TN16 document a cross-disciplinary workshop and seminar of the same name that took place in November 2022.
The project is a collaboration between Djernes & Bell architects, Local Works Studio, Agronomist Janne Dinesen (Høst Skole) and artist Nicholas Brooks, this workshop was the first step into a larger investigation of the relation between agriculture and the built environment. The project was underpinned by a desire for a much closer cross-disciplinary connection between those who work with the land, and those who build on the land and with materials from the land with hopes for a regenerative future. During the workshop farmers, materials specialists, geographers, architects and thatchers partook in an immersive weekend seeking to increase the connection between architecture and agriculture.
Based on this experience and examination, the agronomist Janne Dinesen and architect Justine Bell will give an informal talk about the project and the process with its learnings. The talk will be moderated by the researcher, author and activist Emmy Perez Fjalland. Additionally, a film by artist Nicholas Brooks will be screened as well as photographs by Hampus Berndtson.
The project Harvest to House was generously supported by Statens Kunstfond and hosted by Forening Orbi Vrå (Dinesen x KADK)

Take a look into the intrinsic relationship between resources, materials, and waste – the metabolism of the city – with architect Sandra Bartoli, artist Silvan Linden and the collective TUSCA7.
The event is part of CAFx’ seminar series, 'The Ecological Turn', examining the gradual paradigm shift from a more pragmatic, market-driven architecture towards a more holistic and ‘green’ ecological impulse.
In the first chapter, we will investigate the organic, raw, and metabolic impulse in the contemporary analysis of buildings and cities: the smooth passage of energy, the seamless circulation of waste, and the dynamic operations of microbial colonies. For if modern architecture was recognisable by its austere skin and slender bones, it might indeed be said that the eco- logical turn is distinguishable by its visceral, anatomical language, evoking cell membranes, bowels, and metabolic systems.
To set the stage for this discussion, the architect Sandra Bartoli and the artist Silvan Linden will unfold the modern history of self-sufficient urban gardening, ecological agriculture, and models of waste recycling through a presentation of their collaborative research project “Licht Luft Scheisse”. Subsequently, TUSCA7 will challenge traditional waste management practices through the presentation of local and decentralised composting systems like the one they have built for Banegaarden.
Finally, there will be a joint conversation, offering an opportunity for the audience to engage in the discussion.

Opening night of the site-specific compost installation made by the Berlin-based collective TUSCA7, reusing biomaterial from Banegaarden and involving school children from the local Steiner school.
Join us for the opening night of the compost installation made by the Berlin-based collective Tusca7. Drink a glass of Georgian wine while learn about compost, reuse and architecture.
Regardless of whether one considers the digestion happening in the biogas plants, in our stomachs, or everywhere in nature, we depend on invisible microbes capable of converting and releasing the energy that we need to survive. It is about time that we recognize these diligent little creatures and show them our gratitude. That is why we are opening a restaurant for our microscopic co-citizens at Banegaarden in Jernbanebyen; a place where human Copenhageners already are enjoying the work of bacteria and fungi in the form of well-nourished, organic vegetables and fermented foods.
Throughout June, we will provide facilities so that visitors can participate in preparing a microbial feast from their own leftovers. The recipe and additional ingredients are supplied so come around and show your microbes that you care for them by cooking up the perfect compost.

With a rare balance of incisive historical inquiry, humorous characterisation and playful cinematography, the filmmaker Theo Anthony explores the rat infestation of the American East Coast city of Baltimore and its surprising political, psychological and scientific roots.
Through Anthony's extensive archival research, a complex historical dynamic is revealed that not only summarises rat control, eugenics and urban development plans, but also draws connections to current racial inequalities and tensions. The film will be introduced by Paul Dobraszczyk, lecturer at The Bartlett School of Architecture and author of the recently published 'Animal Architecture: Beasts, Buildings and Us'.
The event is the third chapter of the 'Anima Urbis' programme, which explores the relationship between animals and humans in the city and perception of the so-called 'trash animals': pigeon, fox, rat and wild dog.

This one-day seminar will illuminate our understanding of architectural biophilic design and inspire an interdisciplinary debate on nature-inclusive architectural design.
This unique seminar examines architectural and design approaches where interior space acts as an outstanding experience of the phenomenon of Nature. It combines contemporary design practice with scientific perspectives. In line with the implementation of UN's 17 SDG's, the purpose of the course is two fold: to illuminate and enrich the understanding of architectural biophilic design and to stimulate an interdisciplinary dialogue/debate and interest in Nature-inclusive architectural design.
Besides the strong will to improve collaboration between the actors the main goal is not only to disseminate knowledge but to influence architects and designers to phase in nature-connected design and enhance the health and wellbeing of communities through interaction with Nature (Nature Based Solutions).
The program of the seminar is addressed to architects, designers, and BA and MA students who share an interest in the theme of the course as a starting point for critical reflection. The proposed seminar will help attendees to consciously and critically engage with an emergent and relevant theme. It is a timely moment not only due to the relevancy of the topic, its urgent need and its appealing character, but because 2023 Copenhagen will have a leading role in the international architecture and building forum.
Practical Information:
The course will be held at The Royal Danish Academy Architecture Design Conservation, in Holmen on June 8th. It will start at 10.00 and will end by 19.30 at Louisiana Museum of Modern Art. The course fee is 350DKK. Coffee and a group dinner will be provided as the seminar programme describes. Participants must cover their own transport and entrance ticket to Louisiana Museum. The course is structured as a dynamic set of activities. It includes a shared learning group workshop - tailored to the interests of the participants - discussions, a lecture and an architectural visit that also includes an immersion in nature.
For one day, the participants will be briefly introduced to relevant literature on the theme of the course and the principles of biophilic design, including different approaches to the understanding of 'nature' and presentation of exemplary nature-connected architectural cases. The participants will articulate their understanding of the texts selected, a lecture and a building visited and will reflect on the different questions that may arise.

Join SPACE10 to explore how designers and architects might use AI to challenge past practices and work towards planet-positive living.
How might designers and architects use AI to challenge past practices and work towards planet-positive living? Generative AI tools allow anyone to visualise their ideal homes, products, and cities. By experimenting with these technologies as creative collaborators in the design process, we can collectively and contextually use them to build more sustainable and circular daily lives. To dig deeper into AI's design potential, SPACE10 will host a conversation that challenges past design practices and parameters. We will explore how designers and architects can integrate these tools into their own work, and share recent experiments with oio and Panter&Tourron.

What happens if we simply let the other-than-human speak for itself and influence the development of an old industrial site in Herlev?
(EN) In collaboration with Stedets Væsen (NXT), Building Conversations, and Bybi, we invite you to a roundtable dialogue - a 'Parliament of Birds' - in the old industrial quarter of Herlev, Denmark. The neighbourhood is undergoing a transformation, to become a residential area. In the middle of this transformation, we invite citizens and relevant actors in the construction project, to represent the more-than-human perspective on site.
'The Parliament of Birds' is a performative staging that uses conversation as a format to challenge the world view that places humans at the center, when buildings, urban areas and landscapes are planned.

A thoughtfully curated collection of short films and an introductory lecture by Anne Linke, the director of 'Pigeons and Architecture'.
In this series of short films, we take a journey from Jean Painlevé's famous study of Parisian urban pigeons to Anne Linke's recent film essay on anonymous pigeon feeding in Hamburg. We delve into knowledge and fantasies that surround urban pigeons and architecture built to counteract their resting in urban space: grids, wires and spikes. It will be a celebration of cross-species solidarity, a paean to the feathered architects among us and a short film tryptic that challenges our view of city's symbioses, life forms and life worlds.
'Pigeon' is the first chapter in the series of lecture & film events 'Anima Urbis', exploring the interplay between architecture, urbanisation, and so-called 'trash animals'. Meet two leading architecture collectives from Berlin and Marseilles collaborating on a public space in Nordvest that blends architecture, urbanism, and art.
The two architecture and art collectives Raumlabor (Berlin) and Collectif ETC (Marseille) work at the intersection of architecture, urban development, art and design. Both collectives are interested in the conceptual design and concrete realisation of architectural interventions in public space. Based on citizen involvement and local participation, the collectives ask what constitutes the character of a given place? What creates quality - for the individual and for society? How do you create spaces for dialogue and togetherness in the local community, where people feel safe and part of the community, while at the same time taking climate and resources into account
In 2022, Raumlabor and Collectif ETC were invited to Copenhagen by Goethe-Institut Dänemark and Institut français du Danemark with support by the Franco-German Cultural Fund. Inspired by the urban space around Skjolds Plads and Bispebjerg Bakke, they developed various sketches for new architectural and social initiatives in the area. Some of these drawings will be included in the exhibition at Arkitektforeningen. The exhibition consists of an installation created especially for the occasion, and it contains various artefacts and objects that associate with selected projects from Raumlabor and Collectif ETC. There is a special focus on the collectives' joint projects.
The exhibition will be on display from 7-13 June at the Architects' Association. On Wednesday 7 June there will be a special opening event from 16-18: Axel Timm and Jan Helge Theiler from Raumlabor and Théo Mouzard and Maxence Bohn from Collectif ETC will present their working practices and selected projects. There will be a special focus on the projects jointly developed by the two collectives. The audience is invited to actively participate in the conversation.
The event will be held in English and is organised in collaboration with the Copenhagen Architecture Festival and the Danish Architects' Association. It is supported by the Franco-German Cultural Fund.

Delve into Nørrebro’s history as a political battleground and share unique insights from a personal testimony of Copenhagen’s squatter movements, shedding light on the ongoing fight for urban justice and housing rights.
Historian and sociologist PhD René Karpantschof guides us through the streets of Nørrebro, which historically has been Denmark's 'red stronghold' and the battlefield for numerous major conflicts between the authorities and resident movements.
The tour uncovers the history of urban spaces as political battlegrounds, from the story of the BZ movement's challenge to the legal framework of housing politics, to the current housing struggles and new Danish “ghetto law”.
René Karpantschof shares insights from his personal engagement in the Copenhagen squatter movements of the 1980s, providing a unique perspective on the ongoing fight for urban justice.

Experience a stunning artistic exploration of light, resonance and visual perception with three algorithm-based works by Austrian artist Rainer Kohlberger.
With their mathematical precision and overwhelming complexity, the three cinematic abstractions will draw the audience into a hypnotic and swirling stimulation that challenges the ear's ability to navigate and the eye's ability to focus.
The screening of the films will be introduced by the architect and researcher Carlo Volf, who will talk about solar architecture, heliophobia and the impact of light on human behavior. The event is part of the 'Trivial Matters' program, exploring the aesthetics, politics and metaphysics of architectural materials.

A conversation exploring the relationship between queer life and the need for safe and exclusive spaces with queer-feminist architect Simen Sorthe and guests.
According to Chauncey, there are “no queer space, (…) only spaces put to queer uses.” But can we identify common traits across the spaces queer people inhabit and produce? And could we in a Danish context even imagine a queer typology?
Join us for a conversation at Den Anden Side, the nightclub in the basement of Palads, on Tuesday 6 June, where we will talk about the party, the clinic and the refuge as three examples of queer spaces.
Simen Sorthe, queer-feminist architect and researcher, will be joined by Carlo Molino, DJ and co-founder of Group Therapy, Ditte Maria Bjerno Holst, head of Checkpoint Copenhagen, and Yanaba Mompremier Rymark Sankoh, secretary general of LGBT Asylum.

Join SPACE10 and Nowadays on Earth for a guided workshop focused on connecting urban citizens with multispecies ecosystems to create a vibrant, greener future for all.
As some global cities implement urban rewilding methods, human-to-nature interaction remains inaccessible for many people living in urban environments. With an opening discussion followed by a 90-minute workshop, social enterprise Nowadays On Earth will introduce the concept of ecosomatics — the relationship between the body, its sensations and systems with the more-than-human environment. Focusing on city living, it will encourage people to imagine an alternative urban future by transforming unused spaces into green pockets of life for people, plants, and planet. Participants will receive radical tools for guerrilla gardening, including low-tech mushroom-growing techniques and seed bomb starter kits.

Projektet The Study of plants and music tager udgangspunkt i Vilhelm Lauritzens Radiohus, særligt husets taghaver.

“A Cinematic Gardener" is the third part of a series examining the complicated connection between landscape cultures and their contradictory status between wildness, control, guilt, and care. Come to the Danish premiere of Luke Fowler's "Being in a Place" and explore the complex convergence of film and garden cultures.
Drawing on a wealth of unseen archival material, including sound recordings, film rushes, offcuts and unpublished notebooks, Luke Fowler’s new feature film focuses on Margaret Tait, one of Scotland’s most enigmatic filmmakers. The film takes one of Tait’s unrealised scripts for Channel 4, entitled Heartlandscape: Visions of Ephemerality and Permanence, as its starting point and considers Tait's life and work grounded within the landscape of Orkney. Tait was not interested in filming the scenery but instead looked at the precise details that constitute a place, the small things that are often overlooked. Exploring the process of filmmaking itself from the perspective of a fellow artist sensitive to Tait’s understanding of film as a poetic medium, Being in a Place pays tribute to the strengths in her method, the importance of fragmented bodies of work, and the intrinsic value in failure.
Mathias Ruthner from Øjets bibliotek, a publishers collective specializing in film criticism, will introduce the film. Recently, Øjets bibliotek has published an anthology of Margaret Tait's writings, which will serve as the basis for the introduction. The focus of the introduction will revolve around Tait's garden motif in her writings and films.

Explore the intricate web of relations connecting oil, container logistics, and coastal zones with Allan Sekula's acclaimed work, The Forgotten Space.
'The Forgotten Space' is a provoking description of the world heavy container traffic and a documentary with a unique look at the infrastructures we often forget, but which today permeate every form of life, form of consumption and form of society. It is a film that opens eyes and arouses indignation through an unsentimental defence of human dignity in the face of a system characterised by a cold and hostile anonymity.
The film is introduced by the Berlin-based cultural theorist Alexander Klose, author of the outstanding book 'The Container Principle' and the research project 'Beauty of Oil'.
The event is part of a wider festival focus on coasts, water systems and aquatic landscapes.

Join us for an audio walk in the inner city that explores material traces of Denmark’s colonial history in Copenhagen's city center, interweaving past and present narratives in a polyphonic soundscape.
In collaboration with re:arc institute, we present this audio walk that examines material traces from the colonial era embedded in buildings and monuments in the centre of Copenhagen. The walk takes you from Christianshavns Torv to Kongens Nytorv, creating a polyphonic soundscape. The artists Jupiter J. Child (MZ/DK), La Vaughn Belle (USVI), Sirí Paulsen (GL/DK), Sabitha Söderholm (DK/IN), Oceana James (USVI), Julie Edel Hardenberg (GL) and Bernard Akoi-Jackson (GH) create narratives that intertwine different geographies and times: past and present interweave and testify to how colonialism is not a closed chapter, but still has strong reverberations in the present.
Please bring a pair of headphones and a tablet / smartphone from which you can play the audio.

Immerse yourself in Emilija Škarnulytė's captivating documentary "BURIAL" and engage in a discussion on energy landscapes and deep-time planning.
(EN) Burial invites viewer for an immersive sensorial trip into the unique and vast Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant (INPP) in Lithuania, now undergoing a decommissioning process. Cold War energy structures impact recent geopolitical processes and leave planetary threats over long periods of time. The project takes a geological approach – it reads things that compose this flat landscape as a stack of stratigraphic layers. Burial is an intertwined section through the current entanglement of identities, spatial practices, infrastructures and geological resources. After the film, there will be a discussion with the film director Michael Madsen, researcher and landscpe architect Rikke Munck Petersen and landscape architect Hanne Bat Finke. The panel discussion will be held in Danish and is jointly organized by FAOD, DL, and CAFx

Visit SPACE10's new exhibition, Design in the Age of AI, to explore how generative AI can help us design better futures for people and the planet.
How will artificial intelligence change the way we imagine, design, and build the world around us?
Design in the Age of AI is a new exhibition featuring speculative design concepts from recent SPACE10 projects. It examines how AI can be used as a creative design tool, even a collaborator, inviting critical and grounded conversation. With spatial design by Wang & Söderström, the exhibition reveals how AI can assist us in identifying hyperlocal and circular materials, envisage tomorrow's regenerative homes and cities, and challenge how we design for longevity. Visitors will discover new projects created with Panter&Tourron and oio, which use AI to question ingrained material and design processes. We also spotlight the winners of Regenerative Futures, our global AI design competition that challenged entrants to use AI to develop their vision of the future home, community, or city.

Immerse yourself in Mani Kaul's iconic documentary, 'The Mind of Clay', followed by a lecture by Amalie Smith on her artistic exploration of clay theories.

Seneste udstillinger, performances, screeninger og foredrag har fundet sted på Petzel Gallery og Maxwell Graham Gallery, New York (2023), Architecture Museum at the Technical University of Berlin (2022), Barnard College/Columbia University, New York (2022), Museo Nivola, Sardinien (2020), National Gallery Prague (2018), Bronx Museum of the Arts, New York (2018), South London Gallery (2018) og Royal Academy of Arts, London (2018).

Inaugurated in 1982 and dissolved in 1998, Black Audio Film Collective (BAFC) was comprised of black British multimedia artists and film makers. John Akomfrah, Lina Gopaul, Avril Johnson, Reece Auguiste, Trevor Mathison, David Lawson and Edward George produced award winning film, photography, slide tape, video, installation, posters and interventions. Throughout their career, the BAFC worked within and between the media of art, film and television, participating in exhibitions such as From Two Worlds (Whitechapel Gallery, 1986), The British Art Show (Hayward Gallery, 1990), Documenta X (1997) and Documenta XI (2002).’ The formation of the Black Audio Film Collective, was a response to the social unrest in Britain in the 1980s: Influenced by contemporary debate on post-colonialism and social theorists such as Homi Bhabha and Stuart Hall, they centered around investigations of black identity and culture and reworked the documentary to articulate new voices in British cinema.
Made three years into Thatcherite rule, Black Audio Film Collective’s Twilight City (1989) captures the redevelopment of London, where docks and housing for workers and immigrants gave way to the towers of the new financial hub Canary Wharf. Found footage, city vistas, interviews with the likes of Homi Bhabha as well as letters and accounts of the fictional journalist Olivia, who is researching the creation of wealth in the new London, are interwoven into a dense visual and audio fabric of psychic and historical layers.

To make mending and up-cycling personal and fun, visitors at 'The Mending Station' can get inspired to think about reinventing their clothes instead of throwing them away.
Pink Journal is a flea market concept that emerged during Covid-19 with a will to create a sustainable fashion ecosystem and help change the ways of consuming. At 'The Mending Station' visitors can get inspired to think about reinventing their clothes instead of throwing them away, once they are worn out, boring or out of fashion.
The station will present already up-cycled clothes by the fashion designer Ellen Vinje Sandvik & visual artist Dorota Briestenska, who got into mending out of the will to re-design their own and friend's clothes into unique pieces, with a love for craftsmanship and experimentation.
Bring your garment to the station to discuss its future with the creative duo. Your favourite piece that is damaged but made of quality material, or a piece that is just not exciting to wear anymore can be brought back to life by becoming a garment that feels unique and beautiful again.
Furthermore, the station will offer custom-made patches by both artists, which can easily be placed on any garment, and small embroidery done right on the spot.
The market will take place on the alley in front of the Meatpacking district, on Halmtorvet 46.
Ellen Vinje Sandvik is a fashion designer focusing on revisioning of old techniques and crafts such as decorative embroidery and knitting, heavily inspired by her Norwegian roots. She is a graduate from Scandinavian Academy of Fashion Design in Copenhagen.
Dorota Briestenska is a visual artist and illustrator focusing on the intersection of politics and arts. She is a graduate from the Art and Technology program at Aalborg University.

Through dreamlike sequences and hauntingly beautiful imagery, Helena Whitman’s ‘Drift’ invites us to surrender to the ebb and flow of the sea and to find new modes of being in its timeless rhythms.
Through dreamlike sequences and hauntingly beautiful imagery, Helena Whitman’s ‘Drift’ invites us to surrender to the ebb and flow of the sea and to find new modes of being in its timeless rhythms. Experience an event that explores how the sea subverts our solid, stable spatial and temporal orientation, and how architecture can adopt spatiotemporal schemes from the oceanic realm.
The film is introduced by architecture historian and programme associate at Copenhagen Architecture Festival, Søren Nørkjær Bang, and is part of a broader festival focus on coasts, water systems and aquatic landscapes.

The French environmental historian landscape philosopher Sébastien Marot reflects on symbioses between architecture and agriculture and exchanges ideas with permaculturalist and artist Skye Jin, who does research on the history of permaculture in Scandinavia.
As part of CAFx’ focus on the theme Life Form we are investigating symbioses between architecture and agriculture, human settlements and food production/consumption. Historically, the relationship between the two have been much more integrated than the present-day green deserts of giant grain fields and dense urban developments. What can we learn from history when we are imagining future scenarios in the wake of nature crises?
In this conversation, philosopher Sébastien Marot (F) and permaculture designer Skye Jin will share insights and thoughts based on their different research on this topic: both more from a historical perspective and as visions of future scenarios guiding how we live, eat, build, produce, consume and coexist. Marot will speak from his book “Taking the Country’s Side” where he examines 10.000 years of the relationship between architecture and agriculture, while Jin will elaborate on her project on permaculture in Scandinavia.
Sébastien Marot, Philosopher, teaches the history of architecture, landscape and the environment at the École d’Architecture de la Ville & des Territoires Paris-Est and at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne in Switzerland. He is the author of several books including ‘Sub-Urbanism and the Art of Memory’ (AA Publications 2003), and ‘Taking the Country’s Side: Agriculture and Architecture’ (Poligrafa 2019).
Skye Jin is a multimedia artist MFA and permaculture designer and educator. Founder of Art+Science+Permaculture and GardeningisActivism.com working with the the role of aesthetics in the climate crisis and community co-creation. Co-editor of the magazine PERMAKULTUR where she has researched the history of permaculture in Scandinavia and the regenerative potentials of the city.

The New Yorker, The New York Times og Time Magazine.
Udstillingen er støttet af Statens Kunstfond, Politiken-Fonden, Grosserer L. F. Foghts Fond og Augustinus Fonden.

Gennem samtale og oplæsning bliver tematikker fra den tværfaglige og -skandinaviske bog “her här her” udfoldet både rumligt og i selskab med andre udgivelser og fagfæller. Køb “her här her” samt andre beslægtede bogudgivelser i en lille midlertidig butik.

How important is the architecture of a nightclub? How does a nightclub fit into public space? There are many questions about what is Baggen: Is it an addition to the vibrant cultural life of Kødbyen - the meatpacking district? Is it a space that is trashy, rugged, and underground? Or is it a fun variation - a creative space - fitting into the grand picture of Kødbyen?
Is it a space where a community of queer, weird, alternative, and bohemian proudly meet, or is it a thorn in the eye of the commercial and touristy surrounding?
Baggen is located in Kødbyen - an area of Copenhagen that is culturally protected, so as to conserve the historic look and feel of the late 19th and early 20th-century meat industry in Copenhagen.
For a nightclub that is ever-changing and evolving this poses one of the biggest challenges of designing a space with certain limitations: white tiles to a certain height of the wall, no playing of music outside of the business, ceiling only painted in white, no graffiti, doors painted in a particular shade of blue etc.
Is it the club’s curse, or maybe is it the thing that makes it a unique nightclub? Is the constant struggle of enforced visual and ideological limitation, the very thing that defines Baggen’s identity? We invite you to come and take a look, form your opinion, and see how we have done so far.
To enhance the experience, we will supply you with good music, natural wine, and a blueprint of our white tile walls and colored pencils.
You’re invited to sketch what your illegal graffiti on our white walls would look like. The most creative idea wins a bottle of wine!

Join us for a walk in the streets of Christianshavn where Siri Paulsen reveals hidden narratives of the complex history between Denmark and Greenland.
Based on the audio walk ‘Spor af Grønland’ co-created by Mari Noodt, Siri Paulsen takes us on a journey through Christianshavn, shedding light on hidden narratives and offering a different perspective on the historical ties between Denmark and Greenland. The walk reveals the complexities of Danish decision-making on behalf of the Greenlandic people, uncovering evidence of a long history of trade, power dynamics, and negotiations, and challenging the notion of a simple friendly relationship with Inuit.

Witness the world premiere of Gamborg/Magnussen's new film and hear the duo in conversation with renowned environmental historian Sébastien Marot, discussing the techniques, technologies and semiotics of agriculture.

Visit Folk Kombucha Brewery and hear the artist duo Studio Thinking Hand and researcher Phil Ayres talk about using SCOBY–Symbiotic Culture Of Bacteria and Yeast–as an artistic and architectural material.
On this special tour, we will focus on a small and rare lifeform, namely the SCOBY–Symbiotic Culture Of Bacteria and Yeast, and zoom in on its many different uses and guises. First, we will visit the local kombucha brewery Folk in the Meatpacking District and hear more about the organism, the production of the kombucha drink and taste it.
In CAFx' localities, the well-known artist duo Studio Thinking Hand (DK/AUS) will then present their original work with SCOBY in various forms and as an artistic material, ranging from leathery to goblet-like qualities. Among others, they have previously exhibited SCOBY-based artworks in Munkeruphus, Teater Sort/Hvid and Politikens Forhal. Finally, Phil Ayres, Professor at the Royal Danish Academy, will present his research in fungi, SCOBY and bio-based building materials. At present, this field of research is gaining new ground in the architecture practice and research as part of a necessary recalibration of the massively resource-consuming and CO2-emitting building industry.
The tour begins at Folk Kombucha and ends at CAFx Halmtorvet 27
The event is a collaboration between Folk Kombucha, CAFx and Art Week.

"Coastal Imaginaries takes you back to the future of landscapes and building methods, presenting nature-based design solutions in an age of human-based environmental destruction. Through a composite of speculative scenography and displays of novel research projects, the exhibition invites the audience to explore the spatial logistics of the coastal realm and its field of fluctuating forces, destabilizing and disclosing the terrestrial bias of human headspace and habitats.
Setting out to be a laboratory of hope in the midst of universal hopelessness, Coastal Imaginaries offers a catalogue of proposals for a coastal future grounded in seven nature-based principles. These principles do not merely stretch across time and vast landscapes, but address as well the pressing perspective of the contemporary urgencies of flooding and storm surges. Beyond simply being mechanisms of resilience, these strategies can serve as carbon sinks, foodscapes, material banks, and spaces for human recreation and more-than-human habitation."

The New Yorker, The New York Times og Time Magazine.
Udstillingen er støttet af Statens Kunstfond, Politiken-Fonden, Grosserer L. F. Foghts Fond og Augustinus Fonden.

Don't miss the chance to attend the screening of Stephen Dwoskin's acclaimed masterpiece 'Behindert', accompanied by an introductory lecture and Q&A led by architect and theorist David Gissen.
With its fragmentary imagery, amateurish charm and balanced use of close-ups, Stephen Dwoskin has provided 'Behindert' with a film language that is both curious and close to the body, quivering between warm ecstasy and cold sobriety, documentary home video and staged fiction. 'Behindert' is not only a unique representation of a love relationship seen from a disability perspective but also a work that destabilizes the dominant film historical representation of human intimacy; a film imbued with a deep fascination with the face's subtle grimacing and the body's subtle reaction patterns.
The film is introduced by the renowned American architecture theorist David Gissen; it is the third chapter in the film series 'Disabled Lives, Disabling Forms', which examines the intersection between disability, film and architecture.

'Disabled Lives, Disabling Forms' Film Program
A two-day program of experimental documentary films – all created by filmmakers, representing their experiences of impairment. In addition to documenting disability at home and within urban spaces, these works also disable the aesthetic character of film by challenging the conventional relationships between imagery, sound, and point of view in an effort to capture the sentiment of impairment.

Come and eat a home-cooked meal at Trampoline House, which began as an art project in 2009 established as a community center, moved to a church post-covid, and appeared at the Documenta exhibition last year.
In the Weekend Trampoline House, asylum seekers, rejected asylum seekers, and refugees with residence permits can get counselling, develop capacities, and find community. All under one roof! An alternative/self-institutional space and bottom-up initiative for these vulnerable groups, sometimes left behind by the Danish refugee policy and public institutions.
In 2020, the self-organized refugee justice community center, had to close after ten years of operation due to the corona crisis and lack of funding. The closure of the house left a big void for the many refugees and asylum seekers, who weekly visited the house to get legal counselling, attend Danish classes, enroll in internships and job training programs, make friendships, and form networks.
In the house, children and adults who have fled war, poverty, or human rights abuses found a unique democratic community where they felt welcome and equal. A community in stark contrast to the insecurity and marginalization that many displaced people experience in the Danish asylum and integration system.
To fill this void, a group of former users, volunteers, and staff members established a new house on a more sustainable scale. The result is the Weekend Trampoline House, which in collaboration with the Apostle Church in Vesterbro, opened its doors to the public in 2022.
The event will start with e a series of talks: Co-founder, artist Morten Goll, will talk about the house and its history, its changing location and interior design. Fayeza Ghah Pourof, one of the users of the house, will talk about its social function and space, experience of living in a camp. Lastly, the program coordinator Nynne Roberta Pedersen will reflect upon the inhumane architecture of the camp.
After the talks we will eat home cooked dahl together and continue the conversation.

Join us for a guided tour in Vesterbro with the local artist and urbanist Kenneth Balfelt. Hear about how he has worked with creating spaces with and for some of the most vulnerable groups of the neighbourhood.
Kenneth Balfelt has created a special niche for himself by facilitating design/construction processes and citizen participation as a visual artist. He collaborates with beer drinkers, drug users, street sleepers, etc. about tailoring spaces that meet their special needs: A task that can be difficult to solve for the municipality and in a gentrified district that has undergone major architectural and demographic changes during the last three decades. With his social commitment and flair for urban development, Balfelt will talk about his work involving users, how it relates to the municipality and about collaborations with different forms of life in the mixed neighbourhood he knows inside and out. Along the way, we will visit, Enghave Minipark, Mændenes Hjem (most of which is gone now, but the door and neon sign are still there), the ‘fixerum’ art project on Halmtorvet (which is gone now and replaced by a legal municipal ‘fixerum’), Maria Kirkeplads (which he works on now) and Dugnad. The tour ends at Kenneth Balfelt Team's office with a glass and an informal chat.
Meeting place: Maria Kirkeplads 1707, København V
End: Dybbølsgade 51, stuen, 1721 København V
The event is a collaboration between CAFx and Art Week.

The Pollination Academy, led by Patricia Csobánczi and Oleg Koefoed, guides you on a journey through the city witnessed from a plant perspective, utilising design tools to offer a non-human perspective on the urban environment.
What does the city look like from the perspective of plants? How are places connected and how could we transform them to be more regenerative - for plants, but perhaps also for humans? The Pollination Academy and the Center for Regenerative Transformation invite you to discover the city's micro-ecologies. You will get a map to plunge for an hour into discoveries on your own (or in a small group). After the tour, we will meet for a joint discussion of what we have found and how perspective micro-ecological shifts can be used in a regenerative placemaking.

Experience the Danish premiere of Reid Davenport's critically acclaimed 'I Didn't See You There' with an introductory lecture and Q&A session led by distinguished architect and architectural theorist David Gissen.
With its lingering camerawork and spontaneous dialogues, Reid Davenport's 'I Didn't See You There' offers a raw and straightforward portrayal of everyday life seen from the perspective of a wheelchair user: the mental frustrations, physical obstacles and social interactions. But Davenport's mission is not simply to map the built environment, which is so little thought of with his body in mind. It is also an aesthetic study of the wheelchair's ability to challenge the formal cinematic codes that are linked to the "normal body"; an attempt to rethink the art of film from a different corporeality.
The film is introduced by the renowned American architecture theorist David Gissen; it is the second chapter in the film series 'Disabled Lives, Disabling Forms', which examines the intersection between disability, film and architecture.
