What if the architecture of the future were built entirely from materials harvested during demolition?

Seminar

ENG:

What if the architecture of the future were built entirely from materials harvested during demolition?

As part of the exhibition project Hands On by Slaatto Morsbøl (Thelma Slaatto and Cecilie Morsbøl), we are hosting a seminar with the aim of sharing experiences and insights into the harvesting and reuse of building materials from existing constructions. The practice represents the approach of the youngest generation of architects. The seminar will feature three voices across generations.

In addition to Cecilie Morsbøl and Thelma Slaatto, the panel will include a representative from Søren Pihlmann Architects and architect Flemming Østergaard Nielsen. Flemming Østergaard Nielsen graduated as an architect from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, School of Architecture in 1975. Throughout his career he has worked with sustainable construction. He has collaborated extensively with architect Carsten Hoff – among other things, they built The Experiment at the Thy Camp in 1970.

Hands On showcases Slaatto Morsbøl’s practice of sourcing and transforming materials from demolition, and is part of the Copenhagen Architecture Biennial under the theme Slow Down. The duo has particularly focused on the logistics of demolition processes and how materials can be transported and stored until reuse. They have also worked extensively on cutting old concrete into stone blocks of familiar formats.

The moderator is Mogens Ulderup.

Hands On is supported by the Danish Arts Foundation’s Committee for Architecture, as well as the Dreyer Foundation (via Copenhagen Architecture Biennale).
