Contemporary Student Housing in Copenhagen - Sunday

Open House

Tietgenkollegiet's iconic, circular architecture is created with community at its core. The building is designed so that people naturally meet in the hallways, communal kitchens or the lovely common rooms, where both everyday life and traditions unfold. Nearly 400 students live here in a structure that supports both privacy and collective life. The kitchens provide a framework for close communities, while the courtyard and the open flow of the building invite activities, conversations and spontaneous socializing. The architecture is not only the setting, but also the life of the dormitory.

Where Architecture Shapes Community

In Copenhagen’s Ørestad district, Tietgenkollegiet stands as a striking example of how architecture can foster both individuality and togetherness. Inspired by traditional Chinese Hakka architecture, the circular building was designed by Lundgaard & Tranberg and completed in 2006 as a modern student residence.

Home to nearly 400 students, the building is organized around a central courtyard and features seven floors with shared kitchens, study rooms, and communal areas that encourage social interaction. The architectural design invites residents to meet naturally—whether in the open hallways, lively kitchens, or quiet nooks for study and reflection.

During Open House, you’ll be guided by a local resident and have the chance to explore how the dormitory’s thoughtful layout supports everyday life, traditions, and spontaneous encounters—making the building not just a place to live, but a community in motion.

There will be a guided tour every hour during the opening hours. No registration is needed.
