Co-creating mosquito safe environments

Lecture

Otis Sloan Wood

Urbanisation, climate change, and global trade are expanding mosquito habitats. By 2050, much of Europe, including Denmark, is predicted to be suitable for Aedes albopictus, a vector for diseases such as Zika and dengue. With limited universal vaccines and concerns about overuse of insecticides, alternative approaches such as integrating preventative measures into the built environment are needed. This talk explores this by looking at the MBD-Free Project in Zanzibar. This transdisciplinary initiative investigates how adaptations to existing hospital buildings and outdoor spaces, co-created with a diverse range of stakeholders, could help reduce the risk of mosquito-borne disease transmission and support healthier built environments.

DAN:
