The world around us is in a vulnerable state. All over the world, we see people struggling to sustain their lives and livelihoods in the context they inhabit. Both built and natural environments are threatened and devastated by disasters of various nature - social and political conflicts, natural disasters and the ongoing irreversible consequences caused by post industrialization, climate change and the biodiversity crisis.
This book brings together profiles and projects that are devoted to contributing solutions to these challenges in their everyday practice. People who are directly engaged in rebuilding their respective communities by their own means of action, methods, and insights. Though the individual challenges vary immensely in cause, scale, and urgency – the book investigates both what the specific nature of each response means and what they might have in common.
