Hør en af det 21. århundredes mest indflydelsesrige arkitekturteoretikere, Juhani Pallasmaa, introducere til Tarkovskijs klassiker. En del af det filmprogram, Pallasmaa har tilrettelagt for festivalen.

‘Look at it as if it were the window in a train traveling through your life’ Det var Tarkovskijs råd om hvordan man skulle se hans Nostalghia, og det afslører noget om hvordan den store russiske instruktør brugte bygninger og landskaber. Det er aldrig bare tomme funktionelle rum, det er altid ladet med menneskelig mening. Særligt i Nostalghia, fortællingen om en russers hjemve under en rejse i Italien, er alting personligt ladet, når det enten minder hovedpersonen om de områder han savner, eller omvendt via sin forskellighed gør ham yderligere distanceret og fremmedgjort. Af den grund er Nostalghia måske Tarkovskijs mest intense landskabsfilm.

Navnet Juhani Pallasmaa. Navnet på en 85-årig arkitekturprofessor fra Helinski. Navnet på en intellektuel kraft i arkitekturen, der siden slutningen af 90’erne flittigt har udfordret vores gængse opdelinger af sanserne, kunstarterne, videnformerne og dén synsfetichisme, der har domineret den vestlige modernitet.

Ifølge Pallasmaa er vi ikke primært synsdyr. Tværtimod: Vores sanser er både uvægerligt sammenvredne og ivrige efter samarbejde. Øjnene har altså smag for at røre. Ørerne glæde ved at se. Og huden appetit efter at lytte. Og derfor dvæler Pallasmaa også ofte ved musikken, digtene og filmene som mulige arkitektoniske udsagn. For i det kunsten artikulerer de ellers uartikulerede fornemmelser, der uvægerligt knytter sig til dét at bebo et sted i verden, nytter kunsten, ifølge Pallasmaa, for arkitekturen.
