The Rope | introduceret af Juhani Pallasmaa (EN)

Hør en af det 21. århundredes mest indflydelsesrige arkitekturteoretikere, Juhani Pallasmaa, introducere til The Rope. En del af det filmprogram, Pallasmaa har tilrettelagt for festivalen. Efter filmen giver Pallasmaa en sjælden forelæsning om de skjulte malerier i Hitchcock’s mange film.

Den japanske arkitekt Tadao Ando skrev: ‘I want first to see how far architecture can search for function, but after this survey has been established, I want to see how far architecture can be detached from function.’ Det samme kan siges om Alfred Hitchcock. Ingen kunne som ham lave funktionelle film, hvor hvert eneste filmiske virkemiddel var perfektioneret i forhold til effekter, til at ophidse, forfærde, chokere. Men i film som Rope forsøgte han at fjerne filmskabelsen så langt fra det funktionelle som muligt. Filmen foregår i realtid, optaget på 11 ruller film, hvert klip forsøgt skjult. I stedet er det i høj grad design og rum, filmsettets funktionelle arkitektur, som skaber de filmiske effekter.

Navnet Juhani Pallasmaa. Navnet på en 85-årig arkitekturprofessor fra Helinski. Navnet på en intellektuel kraft i arkitekturen, der siden slutningen af 90’erne flittigt har udfordret vores gængse opdelinger af sanserne, kunstarterne, videnformerne og dén synsfetichisme, der har domineret den vestlige modernitet.

Ifølge Pallasmaa er vi ikke primært synsdyr. Tværtimod: Vores sanser er både uvægerligt sammenvredne og ivrige efter samarbejde. Øjnene har altså smag for at røre. Ørerne glæde ved at se. Og huden appetit efter at lytte. Og derfor dvæler Pallasmaa også ofte ved musikken, digtene og filmene som mulige arkitektoniske udsagn. For i det kunsten artikulerer de ellers uartikulerede fornemmelser, der uvægerligt knytter sig til dét at bebo et sted i verden, nytter kunsten, ifølge Pallasmaa, for arkitekturen.

I forlængelse af festivalens tema i år, har vi inviteret Pallasmaa til at udvælge og introducere fire film til årets program, der alle er stærke repræsentanter for den affektive arkitektur, man ofte finder i film, og som indkapsler nogle af Pallasmaa’s tanker om sansernes betydning for vores arkitekturoplevelse. Invitationen af Pallasmaa følger en festivaltradition for at invitere en samtidsaktuel arkitekt til at tilrettelægge et mindre filmprogram. Tidligere år har vi haft gæstekuratorer som Liam Young, Tatiana Bilbao, Bjarke Ingels, Dorte Mandrup, Dan Stubbergaard og Anupama Kundoo.
