Opening up the world of architecture for children and youth is a key part of our mission at CAFx.
Children and young people are the future citizens, decision-makers, builders, advisors, and architects. We see it as a democratic task to help them understand the exciting and complex field of architecture and urban planning and how it shapes our everyday lives and societies.
Part of that work is sharing experience and insights with fellow actors within the field. A few weeks ago our deputy director, Pernille Maria Bärnheim, took part in a conference at Arkitektskolen Aarhus convened by the national network for architecture, children and youth (Netværk for Arkitektur, Børn og Unge).
At the conference, Pernille gave a presentation on her work at CAFx with the educational format We Co-Create Our City and children from schools in Copenhagen and youth in Gellerup, Aarhus. The educational effort combines societal, aesthetic, environmental and historical aspects and allows the participants to explore their neighborhoods from a new perspective, create architectural models, and do exhibitions of their findings.
Our work with children, youth and their relationship to architecture is ongoing. And we have exciting projects in the pipeline that we cannot wait to tell you more about!
