Den Farlige Gade II: Manila in the Claws of Light (EN)

Oplev Manilas gader, der både skaber muligheder, men også kaos for nytilflyttede fra landet.

Lino Brockas store melodrama er kendt som en af de bedste filippinske film nogensinde, og er blevet blåstemplet af så stort et navn som Martin Scorsese, hvis World Cinema Foundation stod bag den fornemme restaurering. Manilas gader spiller næsten hovedrollen i filmen, fra den sort-hvide nærmest dokumentariske åbning. Her forsøger provinsboen Julio at finde sin udkårne, der blev lokket fra landsbyen med løfter om et bedre liv. Et mageløst portræt af kaotisk urbanisering skabt lige som det for alvor satte sit præg på det filippinske samfund. Her bliver gaden både mulighed for et liv, hvor man skal andet end at stå bag en plov, men samtidig også et helvede af udbytning og anderledeshed.

Filmen præsenteres af Native Narrative (arkitekt Cecilie Wang og arkitekt Jakob Gate), der vil sætte filmen i relation til deres arbejdet i Filippinerne og  mangeårige arbejde med forholdet mellem by og land.

Gaden er både det modernes grundlag og problem; et motiv, så dybt indridset i kulturens fortællinger og billeder, at angrebet og forsvaret for gaden har været en hundredeårs-motor i den vestlige arkitektur- og modernitetsteori.
